Has no one mentioned the new PJ Harvey single? New album, The Hope Six Demolition Project, on April 15.

I tell you what else isn't funny - the criticism that Dancing in the Dark cops. I've been heavily into it following seeing Hot Chip the other night, but fucking hell I love that song. Is it corny? Sure. But it's sincere. The rhythm section kicks arse, Bruce's vocals are great, the lyrics are moving and relatable, and you'd think puppies were slaughtered the way people (Laz) bang on about the synths. They're fine. I've never even seen the video. It's great live and on record it's lovely, just a shame it's followed by a track as dreary, forced and boring as My Hometown.

I like "Dancing in the Dark", too. I have a very high tolerance for a lot of music that others would find "cheesy" or "corny" or whatever, though, so...:p.

I also like "My Hometown". I'll always have a soft spot for that album in general 'cause I remember hearing so many of the songs from it all the time when I was little. Especially "Cover Me", "I'm Goin' Down", and "Glory Days"-my mom had those songs on a couple mix tapes that she used to play all the time when we'd be traveling somewhere.

I have so many music guilty pleasures. I fucking love America's "Tin Man". And quite a bit of 80s John Mellencamp.

The Lonesome Jubilee is in my top ten favorite albums ever.

Also, just listening to the first three Springsteen Albums...goodness sake, he's just the best.

Besides The Angel and Wild Billy. I just can't do those two songs at all.

I, personally, wouldn't consider Mellencamp a guilty pleasure, I consider him highly underrated.

Now, all that 80s hair metal / power ballad stuff I like? That's a guilty pleasure.

Was just in the car with mum and Hungry Like the Wolf came on, does that song feature what sounds like a woman screaming like a porn star in it?? I could have fucking sworn that's what I heard.

The answer is "YES!".

The uncensored version of Girls on Film is pretty raunchy too.

More like Horny Like the Wolf then. All this time I thought the wolf just wanted a hamburger

So, as a result of that Volkswagen commercial, I've had Kiss's 'Beth' in my head for like a week.

I actually don't mind, because it's pretty much the only Kiss song I've heard that I'd describe as 'good'. I don't take Kiss very seriously, but I like that one song. Good melody.

I think every Kiss song I actively enjoy is on the debut. That was a good album. Strutter, Black Diamond, Cold Gin, all of that is pretty decent rock music.

After that, I'm out. I can't even get that much out of Alive because it's way too much Kiss for one sitting.

LIAM. TRAVIS. ASHLEY. EVERYBODY ELSE WHO WANTS TO HEAR/SUFFER THROUGH PROG METAL WANKERY.

The new Dream Theater album is out. It's on Spotify. It's 130 fucking minutes long. It's the most overblown thing they could do, and we know how overblown they have been in the past.

I propose that we listen to THE ASTONISHING together (no really, the album is called that) at some juncture over the weekend. I recommend that you abuse your substance of choice while we unwrap THE GIFT OF MUSIC from Dream Theater (no really, the lead single is called that).

May I suggest 5pm Saturday AEST or any time thereafter? That, I believe, would be 10pm Friday in LA.

Alternatively any time on Sunday so that we can be done by about 6pm Melbourne time.

We may even need to make a Dream Theater thread for this; I just do not wish to put my name to it.

I am listening to first 1 minute of 2nd song (first real track? of this album) and it's already pretty tiresome. and most songs are 4 min. long and there are 34 of them. fuck.

I'll see if I have anything better to do on a Saturday night than to listen to a horrendously awful 130 minute long Dream Theater album.

Aww, you know I'm in.

If you're so keen for there to be a Dream Theater thread, laz, how about you make it?

I know we need more metal-leaning thread but not necessarily has to be DT listening party, i feel like. it's more like mass torture if that happens.

I want Dream Theater to make 2-min. long punk song or something at this pt. I mean, if Rush could make simpler song like Spirit of the Radio, then they can do it.

I still like their music, so I probably wouldn't have as much fun with this as the rest of you.

And, yeah, a new thread for it would be good.
