If it drops in price, I'll definitely get it. But we're not here to talk about that. Lemel, feel free to bump your 'Tommy sucks' thread, it was a ripper.

And let's talk about how utterly awesome Bell Boy is.

I'm streaming Quadrophenia on Rhapsody right now!

It's awesome so far. I like it much, much better than Tommy.

Wow! How did I miss this thread?

Yes indeed. This album is really really brilliant! I do have a thing for rock operas and concept albums where the themes get repeated but that said, everything on Quadrophenia is perfect.. the music, the lyrics, the vocals.. damn! Despite not being all that fond of Drowned or Bell Boy (they're okay), this album is in my Top 10 albums of all-time. Was listening to it again today on good speakers and I was pretty much ing all over again.

The transition from Doctor Jimmy to The Rock =

Quadrophenia has ranked among my all-time favorite albums for quite some time, and shows no signs of relinquishing its spot in the top five. The band is firing on all cylinders, most notably Townshend on lyrics: perhaps only Morrissey has ever given such expressive voice to alienation and existential angst.

And, as Zoots commented, Doctor Jimmy / The Rock / Love Reign O'er Me is among the best trilogies in rock history.

to you both. it's firmly in my top five.

Bell Boy is an awesome song, just about my favourite, is it those cockney accent verses that put you off Zoots?

The only song I really don't care for is The Rock. It adds absolutely nothing and to me is a real bore.

desperately hoping Pearl Jam play The Real Me or Love Reign O'er Me when I see them on the 20th

Well, nah.. the cockney doesn't bug me all that much, it's actually kind of amusing. But the song itself just isn't as catchy as most of the rest I guess.

"Bell Boy" is pants-shittingly awesome. Probably my favorite track off of an unbelievable record, maybe Top 5 for the Who as well. Since you're wondering:

1. A Quick One, While He's Away
2. The Seeker
3. Won't Get Fooled Again
4. Bell Boy
5. Substitute

Get a job and fight to keep it
Strike out to reach a mountain
Be so nice on the outside
But inside keep ambition

reminds me of these lines 4 years later:

And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in
