NEW ALBUM & SINGLE DETAILS ANNOUNCED
24 June 2008

‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ new single out September 29th

‘Dig Out Your Soul’ new album out October 6th

Oasis are set to return later this year with a new single and their seventh studio album. The single,‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ is released on September 29th and the album, ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ follows in October; it is the first new Oasis music since last year’s ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’, taken from the on the road film of the same name. ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ sees Dave Sardy return to the producer’s chair following his work on their 2005 album, ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’. Recorded at Abbey Road and mixed in Los Angeles, all four members once again contribute tracks, but the recording marks a new approach for the band as described by the band’s principle songwriter, Noel:

“I wanted to write music that had a groove; not songs that followed that traditional pattern of verse, chorus and middle eight. I wanted a sound that was more hypnotic; more driving. Songs that would draw you in, in a different way. Songs that you would maybe have to connect to - to feel.”

The lead single is still unmistakably Oasis, a Noel penned song with Liam’s immediately familiar voice to the fore underlining their distinctive brand of finger in the socket rock ’n’ roll.

‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ may well represent the most recognisable Oasis song on the album but, again, the new approach on ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ was present on this lead track as Noel explains:

“If ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ sounds instant and compelling to you, it’s because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast. ‘The Shock of The Lightning’ basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best.”

‘Dig Out Your Soul’ will be the first album released on the band’s own Big Brother label worldwide.

Yes! Good news.

but Dig Out Your Soul is an awful name for an album.

Sounds like a Hindu porn movie or somethin.

Looking forward to this, though, for sure. Thanks.

Dig Out Your Soul sounds a bit clumsy for an album title

"The Shock Of The Lightning" cool song title....

But Oasis albums never disappoint.....mad for it already

FAIL.

I really enjoyed Heathen Chemistry and wish that it received more respect around here. In my mind it was an enormous improvement over Shoulders of Giants and is stronger than Don't Believe the Truth.

Totally agree. I don't really get why that album got "mmeh, another disappointing Oasis album" reception while Don't Believe the Truth got hailed as a "comeback",

I hope Liam's voice got better than what it sounded on a last few live clips I've seen.

I heard a few of the demo's a while back and they put me to sleep.
I hope the success of their last album hasnt got to their heads.

You're a clown.

That's still at least a 3 star album.

I do somewhat agree that it could be a 3 or maybe 2.5 star album. It does have Stand By Me, D'You Know What I Mean, All Around The World (although it is way too long), It's Gettin Better Man and the title track. And I don't mind Magic Pie either.

I wouldn't mind getting Heathen Chem. Little By Little could very well be my all-time fav song of theirs!

Be Here Now is a funny album. They really defined a sound of arrogant assholes on coke playing guitars. Why is every other song over 7 minutes long? All Around the World is probably their worst. Is it me or the vocal melody in that one sounds like S Club 7 or something?

That said, D'You Know What I Mean rocks. 2 minutes too long, but I dig it. The first minute of Magic Pie isn't bad. Then it gets into coke madness of course.

Dig out your soul? Are we sure this is not actually the title of the new U2 album?

This is on album I'm not excited about, phew, this year is exciting enough music-wise. I've never liked Oasis much.

Meh. Hopefully they bring something new to the table, and I'll give it a listen but I'm not psyched, and yes that title is just terrible.

good news. i can't wait. it's good to see some oasis love on this forum -- i'm shocked at how few u2 fans are oasis fans as well.

Yes!

I enjoy Don't Believe the Truth, but I prefer Heathen Chemistry. I think it's more varied and I just like the songs better. It's my favorite of theirs since Be Here Now...which rocks. Yes, yes it does. Make no mistake about it. The songs are too long and they were putting cocaine in their breakfast cereal every morning...but the songs are still there. I love Be Here Now. Also, Johnny Depp plays guitar on that album. Coolness.

What a lot of folk tend to (want to?) ignore is that Heathen Chem and SOTSOG were, for the most part, changes in musical direction.

SOTSOG especially is kinda psychadelic or chilled, a kind of extension of Magic Pie, but a lot more awesome. Take songs like Gas Panic!, Roll It Over and Who Feels Love. A very cruisy album, although let down by the obligation to restrict the number of Noel-sung songs to 3. Otherwise, Cigarettes In Hell and One Way Road would've been logical inclusions on the album at the expense of I Can See A Liar.

Heathen Chem almost has a bit of a country and western swagger about it in some songs, namely Force Of Nature, Hung In A Bad Place and She Is Love, while also extending that psychadelica from SOTSOG a little (Born On A Different Cloud, The Hindu Times). Little By Little and Songbird are just pure class.
