Best songs on the album: Miss Sweeney, Pig, and Spider. Too bad they're only on deluxe versions.

L-Mel, you're obviously a bigger fan of this band than I, but I think you're taking the lyrical aspect of their music too seriously. They seem like a band that doesn't take themselves seriously enough for the lyrical content to matter, as opposed to a band like Coldplay, you know? It's refreshing to hear a catchy pop album with some good musical ideas not feeling like they have to get bogged down by lyrics. Don't get me wrong, I hate shitty lyrics in the right situation, but this doesn't feel like that situation.

Weezer at the Forum. Perhaps I'll take my brother and nephew for my brother's birthday.

I didn't notice this until just now:

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but you have to see my view from the perspective of someone who has played the first two albums to death. Weezer has ALWAYS utilized quirky, occasionally throwaway metaphors and general goofiness in their lyrics, but never as poorly as they have recently. There was a subtle maturity to it also. It's not so much that I'm unable to accept what they're doing now as it is how obvious that whatever subtlety and tact Rivers once had is gone completely. Compare the whimsical goofiness of My Name Is Jonas:

Come sit next to me
Pour yourself some tea
Just like Grandma made
When we couldn't find sleep
Things were better then
Once but never again
We've all left the den
Let me tell you 'bout it

To the braindead goofiness of Dope Nose:

Cheese smells so good
On a burnt piece of lamb
Fag of the year
Who could beat up your man

For the times
That you wanna go and
Bust rhymes real slow
I'll appear
Slap you on the face
And enjoy the show

There's no contest. Granted, I enjoy both songs, but one song is strong musically and lyrically, while the other is enjoyable in spite of itself. Also, I still find the Red Album entertaining. There are many intriguing ideas present, even if the lyrics sound like they were ripped from a Kidz Bop compilation at times.

The "Dope Nose" lyrics are bad, that's for sure, but I was referring more to The Red Album, which is still catchy and fun in spite of itself. It lacks creativity because they want to sell records.

In Weezer's defense, after performing 'Dope Nose' for the first show of the Maladroit tour (oddly enough, it was in Utah), Rivers said, "Those are some bad lyrics".

Dope Nose fucking rocks. It's just horrible if you actually sit down and think about it, as I am wont to do.

I still think Weezer releases awesome singles, and I've even put a compilation together of my favorite post-Pinkerton tracks. LMP has seen this:

1. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived
2. Dope Nose
3. Don't Let Go
4. Perfect Situation
5. Burndt Jamb
6. Dreamin'
7. Photograph
8. Keep Fishin'
9. Pork And Beans
10. Hashpipe
11. This Is Such A Pity
12. Island In The Sun
13. Peace
14. Hold Me
15. The Angel And The One

Though I know it's not popular to admit, I'm actually a huge fan of the Green album, I think it's absolutely stellar from start to end for what it is. I like Maladroit quite a bit as well, and don't really have any issues with it. For me, Make Believe was the beginning of the "bad era". While Red is better than Make Believe, it's still not all that great in and of itself. I haven't even listened to anything from it for a couple months now...

I like the first half of the Green album quite a bit. And Maladroit would have been better if some of the fat had been trimmed (and if Keep Fishin' had been the same as the single version). Make Believe, though, I disagree with you on, but that's okay. I'm one of the few people who really liked most of Make Believe. Especially the first 4 songs, Best Friend (for sentimental reasons), and a couple near the end. That said, I don't even have the song titles memorized, so that says something, I suppose.

Awesome show last night.

Does anyone go to or know of any good Weezer forums where I can find last night's setlist?
