Is it possible to dislike this song, though? I am not being sarcastic. I think it's fantastic.

I tried to read her twitter page, but it's worse than my 15 year old cousin's.

hmm I just imported her new album into my iTunes and the genre came up as "intentionally awful"

The reviews piling in today seem to be less than positive.

I think we can be glad that a lot of the press isn't willing to play emperor's new clothes with this garbage. Nothing worse than people getting a free pass because of what they did in the past...upon listening to "Born Free" for the first time, I could just imagine some morons watching M.I.A. in concert and trying to feign excitement as she launches into that schlock.

Ouch. And they've been heavily promoting this thing.

Pitchfork: Album Reviews: M.I.A.: / \ / \ / \ Y / \

Hard to feel much sympathy.

I think it's at least a 4.9, those butchers.

Seriously, though, I am angry that there isn't at least far and wide love for "It Takes a Muscle." One of the best covers I've heard in the last few years.

Ha, I haven't agreed with a Pitchfork review to this degree in a long time.

I want to hear the album again, but only because MIA is incompetent and forgot to put Lovalot on her myspace.

Popmatters review was quite similar:

M.I.A.: ///Y/ < PopMatters

Allmusic seem to have given it a 7 (which is their lowest score for one of her albums), but don't have an actual review supporting it yet.

It's as if everything that was great about M.I.A. has been stripped from this music, leaving behind only the most alienating aspects of her art and public persona.
That about sums it up. I read that Pitchfork review nodding pretty much all the way.
