I sing along at every show for every band I see if I know the words. I understand being annoyed by others at shows sometimes, but I don't see how singing and cheering are improper concert etiquette. If anything, I think people who do neither are assholes for not giving the band energy back for their performance. I've had a band thank me for knowing the words to every song once. If you wanted to experience a silent hall, you should have stayed at home and played the album on your stereo. It's not classical music, it's rock and roll.

Yeah, I can understand the frustration of watching the show through the viewfinder of someone else's camera, but to think that singing along and cheering is poor etiquette is just baffling.

Sure, there's a limit, no one wants to be next to that person screaming and hollering (or doing that piercing whistle, which I just LOATHE) nonstop throughout every song, but come on, now.

Are we allowed to clap at the end of the main set or should we wait until after the encore?

At the end of the main set you should stand up, collect your things, and quietly leave the venue in an orderlay fashion. Encores are nothing more than ego sets. If the band can't make their point in one main set, then they're not doing it right.

Corrected again.

I always feel embarrassed for the city when there is no energy at a show.

The guy infront of me last night was hilarious. He was dancing all twitchy-like and throwing in a little bit of air drums. He looked ridiculous, but he was enjoying the show, so it was cool with me

I feel embarrassed for the city when it's in Utah or Canada.

I painstakingly worded that to try and avoid one o' them. I failed

I expect a crowd to increase the volume, but not with their own bullshit. If people want to catch up with their bros, a bar is usually nearby. However, if they know the words and want to boost the band's energy, I believe that's part of the fun on all accounts. Anyone who has an issue with an excitable crowd can buy the DVD and wank to their own privilege at home.

Yeah, but what if you want to drink some Natty Ice and play some GameCube with your bros? You can't do that at a bar. But you can do that at a Jack Johnson concert.

Odds are good that they will get laid after said Jack Johnson concert (I would hope that's the motivation for going anyway), so I don't feel too bad for them.

All I know is that 3 days at Lollapalooza made me hate the human race. At first, I thought it was just shirtless men with green plastic sunglasses, but then I saw Metric and discovered it was literally everyone.
