Anybody else picking this up today? I am relatively new to Neko Case, having seen her open for Rufus Wainwright two years ago and purchased Fox Confessor Brings the Flood last year. The single, "People Got a Lotta Nerve" is pretty swell, and the early reviews are among the best of the year.

I'll post my thoughts on the album later, but for now - what other albums do you veterans suggest? I'm headed to Borders in between classes and may bulk up my purchase.

Oooh, I didn't even know about it! I am sure I will pick it up during my lunch run to Best Buy, located inconveniently on the other side of town. I think Neko Case is the cat's meow. I only have Fox Confessor and some other random songs, and an NPR live show.

Waits for elfa...

I like country Neko. She's the real deal. I just perused some reviews (ha) and see it has a nice line-up of guests, like Calexico and M. Ward.

I can't see you not liking this, my only complaint so far is that most of the songs are too short.

I'm listening to the bonus track right now; Marais La Nuit - it's 31:39 long... I'm 3 minutes in so far and it's nothing but crickets...

31 minutes? Really? That's barely a record proper.

Maybe that explains the $7.99 price on Amazon.

I don't see how you can go wrong with that voice, though.

or nothing but net?

no, in this case it's just crickets - it's kind of neat, in a peaceful sort of way, but 31 minutes is a tad excessive...

I’m not sure if it’s on the CD though – iTunes lists it as a bonus track so...

I refuse to listen to this solely because I feel it facilitates elfa's Canadian agenda.

Would I dig this if I find the New Pornos almost insufferably boring?

You would most definitely dig Neko Case even if you find the New Pornos insufferably boring, and even though she's not a tranny.

Fox Confessor is a quiet little masterpiece.

I may buy Fox Confessor this evening then. Thanks for the recommendation.

And including a tranny isn't a prerequisite for my enjoying a band. It's not my fault that he/she sings on a damn good album that only I'm crazy about.

I much prefer Neko Case's solo stuff to New Pornographers, who I really wanted to like but there's something really offputting to me about them.
