Hello Lazarus. Things I know about My Morning Jacket: 1) Jim James is the lead singer and he has collaborated with The Flaming Lips.

Given my tastes, recommend me a song and/or songs and/or an album to see if I can't get into this band ahead of the new album.

I don't see you as much of an alt-country listener, so I wouldn't suggest starting from the beginning. Listen to Z first (it's sooooooo good) or Evil Urges, which has a loose funk quality about parts of it that will likely to appeal to you. If you want to hear something in their more well-known jam band/country rock vein, It Still Moves would be good.

As far as individual tracks go, I think It Beats 4 U would be a good place to start, considering your tastes. It gives me a Radiohead mixed with TV on the Radio vibe, while also sounding like MMJ. Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt. 2 and the title track are highlights from Evil Urges that you might be especially drawn to.

I missed this thread earlier. I adored their last album, and I don't mind the lead single to this one. Let's go!

This AND Mumford and Sons would be too much for one week.

This album is rock solid. Definitely their best since Z. Much more consistently enjoyable than Circuital, which had crap like Holding On To Black Metal and Outta My System to go along with sparkling moments like the title track and Victory Dance.

Only Memories Remain is what Evil Urges should have been.

Big Jacket fan here. Didn't know there were as many here on Interference. Been a fan since I first saw them live in 2002.

The WaterFall is a great rebound from Circuital and their best since Z. It Still Moves & At Dawn are my favorite but The WaterFall is a return to form these guys. Has that mystery to along with some great tunes.

Go see these guys live if you have a chance. In my opinion there the best live band out there right now.....

Just so there's no confusion, I want something to be very clear:

I love this album.

I wish I lived in the alternate universe where this superior band is discussed more than Wilco. They're better in every conceivable way.

And The Waterfall blows Star Wars out of the, umm, water.

I love them but admittedly lost track of them somewhere along the way. I need to catch up.

I saw them both at the same show and I enjoyed them both very much, but I do prefer mmj of the two when it comes to listening to albums.
