Michael Kiwanuka

I've had very little faith in modern R&B/soul music. It's usually a let down. But this dude, Black Joe Lewis, Raphael Saadiq, & Sharon Jones give hope.

This dude is ace. Beautiful song. Sunday song. And I'm an agnostic.

I like Raphael Saadiq and Sharon Jones, so I need to check this guy out.

did you check him out? I've been obsessed with his record for 2 weeks. There's not a bad track on it. It sounds so good in the sun. Soul that sounds so British. He's definitely listened to loads of old records. A 24 year old with songwriting chops like this is really rare. I'm jealous of both.

No! But it's so funny that you just bumped this thread, because next to me is a page I tore out of Entertainment Weekly that mentions this guy. I read the blurb and thought "huh, I want to check this guy out."

Had completely forgotten about this thread. Ha.

Okay, I listened to it twice on Spotify and was a little underwhelmed. A little too mellow for my taste. I like the more upbeat retro-soul songs.

But, definitely a great voice on the guy, can't deny that.

I really like how he was able to transition from DE to linebacker so seamlessly

Ha!

The name made me do a double take as well.

Go Big Blue!

Well, maybe I'll have to revisit him via Spotify again next week, because this is just lovely.

thanks for that. I'd have never seen it otherwise.

He's definitely mellow soul. He's surely not party soul, but he's great on the back porch in summer sun.
