agreed with LM, Monoliths is by far my favorite song of the year.
Yeah, it's toned down considerably from FC, but it could have been toned down more or done away with entirely on a few songs. I think he just needs to be more selective when he uses it, because sometimes it kills. Like on Different Mirrors. I know that's on FC, but fuck it's so good!

the album was given Best New Music on Pitchfork, though i think it deserves even higher than an 8.4.

It got BNM'd? Awesome, anything to get this album more attention. AOTY is between this and Bloom for the moment, with a huge dropoff after that.

My copy is on the way, but, Mikal, I've got to tell you that you've made my expectations unbelievably high for this one. I'm not sure there is any way that I can be satisfied at this point.

Perfume Genius.

This obviously isn't the place for it, but I feel a need to say this somewhere: the latest Shins album is maybe the most superficial, uninspired thing I've heard in years. All gloss with no substance.

Perfume Genius is definitely in my top 5 so far, and I think I would have School of Seven Bells in the top 10.

I haven't heard the John Talabot yet and I've only heard the single from Beach House, but otherwise LM's list is some top albums.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that Perfume Genius album, it's just a record I need to spend more time with. It's also very much a mood album, so it remains to be seen how much I return to it throughout the year. Whatever the case, it's very good.

Hopefully it meets your expectations.

Honestly, I haven't been this excited about an album in a long time.

Yeah. I be open to all albums that come out this year, but it's going to be hard for anything to top this album for me.
