Started it over again today and enjoyed it, I already like it more than We Are Beautiful.

I had no idea We Are Beautiful was unpopular. Great record, their perkier tunes work better in 30 minute segments.

I think because We Are Beautiful kind of trails off. The first half is good and you have DEB1 but other than that, the B-side is kind of shit.

Just purchasing this now - thanks to my Amazon MP3 credits, it will cost me a paltry $4. I do love Amazon.

Agreed here.

Which is why I'm slightly giving the edge to Hello Sadness.

Although NOTHING on there is as good as DEB1, Miserabilia, or the title track.

I can't get "By Your Hand" out of my head. It might be the catchiest thing that I've heard this year.

That one has really grown on me.

And that "headstone/headboard" group refrain in Baby I Got The Death Rattle is definitely eligible for the LC! Hall of Fame.

What are your thoughts on Kim's vocals on Black Bird/Dark Slope?

I was surprised to like them as much as I do. It's highly doubtful that any of us will ever feel the same way about them as we did Aleks' vocals, but Kim's bit on "Dark Slope" was pretty good. Great moment in the song. And I do love her backing vocals on "By Your Hand" pretty hard.

The only song I don't like it "Hate for the Island," which I'm not sure you can even call much of a song anyway. And yeah, the headstone/headboard thing might be my favorite Garethism on the album.

You like the last song? It's totally unmemorable, and easily their worst closer, which is saying something considering how weak All Your Keyfabe Friends is.

Yeah. I'm still amazed that El Mel reacted against it so strongly.

It's growing on me. I still think it's a little clunky and certainly isn't in the same league as In Medias Res as an opener, but it's enjoyable. Songs About Your Girlfriend, on the other hand, kicks ass.

I would be pretty crazy about the album if it weren't for the lyrics. Sometimes, introspection goes too far. I've always thought Robert Smith really mailed it in for Pornography, but that opinion is informed by years of emo acts trying to approximate Smith. Maybe at the time it was really innovative and shocking. In any case, Hello Sadness is not.

At this point, I'm assuming if that if they schedule a show I will not be able to make it for one reason or another. When a volcano has canceled your show, all bets are off.
