Lollapalooza 2010

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
If that four letter spot on the second line is anyone but MGMT, this lineup is officially awesome. Beck, Ween, Cake, even Sade would be pretty damn cool.

But yeah, it's got to be MGMT.

EDIT: Yep, according to Blabbermouth.net (run by Roadrunner Records), this is the official lineup:

Erykah Badu is a nice surprise. About 25 artists I would like to see on that list.

Apparently, we're all going to miss it though  April 6-9?? No one has gotten their e-ticket yet!

Damn. I'm trying not to get excited about this Soundgarden reunion, but the grunge kid in me won't allow it.

Nice line-up all-in-all.

So, I'm about 70% sure I'm going to this (the 30% depends on whether I can get a job this summer), now that I've had to back out of plans for U2 in Germany. I need to do something awesome in August.

Who's going??

Bumbity-bump-bump-bump.

BUMP.

Bump-a-lump-a-wump.

The schedule, according to my recent data retrieval, is set to be released on June 8th.

Which is tomorrow.

I'm wondering. Will they release it at midnight? Which means, in like, 45 minutes?

If so...hot damn. I'm excited.

BUMPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

I really hope it is actually released at midnight. It would make sense, but I honestly have no idea.

I'm afraid it won't be. When they were doing that letter a day thing, they were giving the letters at 10 AM, which is when I'm expecting the line-up to show up. But I'd rather spend all night intricately piecing together my plans for a concert two months from now, so come on midnight release!

Haha, hell yes!

I said it earlier in the thread, but I really really hope that Arcade Fire, Gaga, and the Strokes are all at separate times and that there are no conflicts between them. Those are by far the three artists I'm most excited to see.

It won't ruin anything of course if there are those conflicts. This thing is always a blast. And there are a good 15 to 20 other artists I'm excited to see besides the big 3. And there's always the prospects of discovering a new band that I'd never known about before.

Plus, one of my buddies last weekend was actually successful in getting me more pumped about the Soundgarden headlining spot than I previously had been. So, there you go.

In all likelihood, it's going to be Gaga vs. The Strokes, which has me a bit disappointed because I'm not going to pass up Gaga. On the other hand, my Strokes fandom is newer, so I'm a bit more pumped for them than Gaga.

Well, that's what happens, I guess, the more "into" music you get. Friday's lineup was no problem, but Saturday and Sunday have more conflicts than I was expecting :(.

Friday:
B.o.B.
Wavves
The Walkmen
Mavis Staples?
The Big Pink
The New Pornographers
Dirty Projectors
Hot Chip
Lady Gaga

Saturday (and I'll have to leave in my personal conflicts, but LemonMelon has put his foot down a bit):
Mynameisjohnmichael
The Morning Benders
The Soft Pack
Conflict 1: Rogue Wave vs. Wild Beasts
Stars
The XX
Conflict 2: Grizzly Bear vs. AFI (but AFI would interfere with Metric so unlikely)
Metric
Conflict 3: Spoon Vs. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes
Cut Copy
Phoenix

Sunday
:
HEALTH
The Antlers
The Dodos
Blitzen Trapper
Biggest Conflict EVAR: Mumford & Sons vs. Hockey vs. Yeasayer
Frightened Rabbit
MGMT
The National
Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire vs. Soundgarden.

:(

Looks like it has to be Arcade Fire for me, for 2 reasons:

1) I have to pick the current act I love over the nostalgia act I just like

2) The National play until 8:30 anyway.

Friday's highlight is Raphael Saadiq at 2:00pm. I'm not sure if I'll stay all night, but if I do, I'll see The Strokes.

Saturday, seeing Stars then The XX then Grizzly Bear then Metric then Spoon then Cut Copy then Phoenix without a break is a pretty strong stretch.

I know most people on the site could not care less but missing Soundgarden does bum me out.

I'm sure it does, Mike, I do get it. Sure, my liking Hockey doesn't go anywhere near as far back as your liking them, but the fact is, if I don't see them I can see two other bands, and that has me bummed, because I've been waiting all summer for a chance to finally see them (they have turned into my windmill of a band)

I'll probably go back and forth cos the Soundgarden thing is a one-off, I believe, whereas Arcade Fire will be touring.

Fuck.

Oh, well, as problems go, this is a good one to have.

Back and forth was an option until I realized Hockey was on the other side of the park.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DOGGIES!

Looks like Saturday is "spend 6 hours or so straight somehow avoiding GAF day" for me.

My "Fuck MGMT" plan is more to sit at the stage The National will be playing on and maybe turn around to listen to "Kids". At least I think their stages will be across from one another.

I'm elusive.

The Budweiser and Playstation stages are very close to eachother, yes. But the way the park is set up I don't think you'd be able to see the Budweiser stage from the Playstation stage. You'll probably be able to hear, though. Yeah, "Kids" and "Time to Pretend" would maybe be worth a quick listen.

That North side of the park is going to be a gigantic clusterfuck on Sunday night. MGMT, National, and Arcade Fire all packed in that little section. Could be a bit of a pain for some people. I'm not all that worried about it, though. It sucks that there's no gap between the Nash and AF sets. Oh well. Like I said, those two stages are very close.

The biggest bummer conflict is Strokes v. Gaga. I'm probably going to end up just watching the entirety of the Strokes set. Which is totally cool, they're one of my all-time favorite bands, but I have this adventurous vision in my head of watching the first hour of the Strokes set and then dashing over to catch the end of Gaga's. Probably won't happen.

Because I'm old as fuck and hate being in the middle of a crush of people on hot and humid days, I'll likely set up shop off to the side, on the west side of the park, under the trees, like I did a few times in the past. Yeah, it would be more awesome to be up close but I'd be miserable, probably.

I have no illusions of being up front for any of these sets, not if I want to hit all the acts I do.

We should all meet up at the National set and have a sad but privileged white people dance party. I'll put a little somethin' in my lemonade and take it with me.
