The National -- May 15

I didn't even know they were playing a concert within range until I saw this blurb on their facebook page: Tickets on-sale now for MusicNOW in Cincinnati
I clicked on the link, bought my ticket, and I'm going!!!!! :D

For the first time in a long time I have nothing on the concert calendar - except a whole lotta U2. :D However, like others I do expect to hit REM, Coldplay, hopefully Radiohead and perhaps The Strokes, at the very least, in the coming year.

March 30 - U2, Buenos Aires
April 2 - U2, Buenos Aires
April 3 - U2, Buenos Aires
May 21 - U2, Denver
June 22 - U2, Baltimore
July 8 - U2, Montreal
July 9 - U2, Montreal
July 20 - U2, New Jersey

OK, in the past couple of days I finally picked up a couple of NON-U2 shows this year :D :

February 16 - Fitz & the Tantrums, Brooklyn
May 2 - Peter, Bjorn & John, NYC

Although I am bumming that I will be missing Elvis Costello, and also now LCD Soundsystem's last ever show (for now, anyway  ) 'cos they clash with my U2 travels...

Was just musing that the non-U2 concert pickings have been quite slim lately, - well, at least concerts that don't conflict with U2! I WOULD'VE gone to LCD Soundsystem, Elvis Costello, and Eddie Vedder, had they not conflicted with U2 shows I am seeing. Have no other non-U2 shows on the horizon except this add:

May 1 - The Strokes, Girl Talk, RaRa Riot and others @ the Sweetlife Festival, Columbia, MD

And I am going to this because I was in Argentina seeing...U2...when The Strokes played MSG. And this may cause me to pass on the Peter, Bjorn & John show because I come back that day straight to work and have no place to leave my stuff.

The summer schedule around here is not looking as great as last years, but we'll see.

It looks like my U2 tour still hasn't finished, though it probably will in July ( ). But I'm also happy to announce some non-U2 shows!

(OK, I guess officially its 2 shows since I'm taking the kid to see the Imagination Movers at the Oprheum on April 23...actually did the whole VIP meet & greet thing with front row seats...at least I'll get to meet Nina in person)

So at this children's concert, the band does a snippet of U2's Bad (along with full cover of In a Big Country, snippet of 500 Miles and Snippet of Panama, the kids had no clue), Nina (if anyone else here has kids who watch the show) sang the "wide awake" line and was damn good. Go figure.

January 31 - Little Dragon
February 18 - Broken Social Scene
March 25 - Destroyer
April 9 - Warpaint
April 20 - The Kills
April 22 - Cut Copy

April 25 - Okkervil River
May 3 - Arcade Fire / Explosions in the Sky
May 4 - Childish Gambino
May 10 - Fleet Foxes

Tremendously solid year thus far.

:hi5:

With Black Angels opening!! :hyper:

See you there. :sexywink:

I'm pretty excited for this show. I've never seen a show at this venue. Should be fun. See you there!

Couple of new shows. I will be going to see Prince on Saturday! Very excited. Also, Rage Against the Machine, Muse, Rise Against and Snoop? will be performing at the LA Coliseum July 30. I will be getting tickets to that. Will also likely need to invest in riot gear.

So as of now:

Tonight: The Airborne Toxic Event at the Music Box in Hollywood.
Saturday: PRINCE! at the Forum.

5/14: The Kills at the Fox Theatre in Pomona.

6/4: Some Irish band and LENNY KRAVITZ!
6/17: More LENNY KRAVITZ
6/18: I can't get enough of LENNY KRAVITZ!

7/30: RATM, Muse, Rise Against, and Snoop (maybe) at the LA Coliseum (maybe)

If I survive that:
8/12-14: Outside Lands

Headed to Beale St. Music Festival this weekend, starting tomorrow evening. My schedule for tomorrow is:

Manchester Orchestra
Cage the Elephant
MGMT
The Flaming Lips

Got to see The New Pornographers yesterday, albeit without Dan. Still worth the three day pass. Also saw Mumford & Sons, Lucinda Williams, and John Mellencamp. Meh.

Heading back down now to see Amos Lee, Lucero, Gregg Allman, Avett Brothers, and ultimately peaking with Wilco. If the water stays in the eastern bank and lightning holds off, it should be a great finale. It better be, because it's supposed to get wetter today.

Good bill, I'd say, though the Pornos lose a lot of spice without Dan, who's a fucking bro live. When I saw them, he nursed a can of beer (holding it in one hand) the whole time and sang his songs with detached badassery. Can't wait to see Destroyer at P4k.

Lucinda Williams is awesome.

For the rest of the year so far:

05/02 – Peter Bjorn and John at Bowery Ballroom (Early Show)
05/17 – Lykke Li at Webster Hall
06/18 – Governor’s Ball at Governor’s Island
06/24 – Florence and the Machine at Central Park Summerstage
06/29 – Matt & Kim/The Thermals at Terminal 5
07/20 – U2 at Giants Stadium
09/14 - The Big Four (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) at Yankee Stadium

Hopefully I'll get tickets to the last one.

ha, it looks like i didn't miss a thing this year. there's not a single act in the whole line-up i'd want to see. the years are hit-and-miss for me, some years i want to get a three day pass, some not at all.

Yeah, it hurt to see Dan missing. Some of my favorite TNP songs are his. Their shows definitely feel "safer" without him staggering on and off stage with a wine bottle. He injects an element of sinister unpredictability into the otherwise feel-good of TNP shows. I get the feeling from stage banter that Carl and the band have no idea how to really handle him. :D

I agree on Lucinda, but I could have never guessed how little stage presence she brings. The swagger on record just did not translate on stage. It almost hurt to watch.

I totally relate. I'd not been remotely interested in Music Fest for about three years, and this is the first time I ever remember buying the pass. The main thing that stood out to me was the fact that every "headliner" act this year is actually relevant. Most years, there are numerous washed-up bands who haven't put out a proper album in 20 years.

Regardless, I travel to see TNP and Wilco, and I'll take them anyway I can get them. Many of the others I'd never pay to see, but I'd sit through them if it was paid for. The Flaming Lips were icing on the cake. That was truly an experience.

let's see...

may 14: ruby frost
may 20: jonny love
may 27: ruby frost/cut copy
may 28: dave dobbyn/dukes

holy shit. seeing so many shows is a rarity, it's just cuz it's nz music month.

So far one show on the docket:

Tres Mts. March 27 at the Paradise in Boston

(OK, I guess officially its 2 shows since I'm taking the kid to see the Imagination Movers at the Oprheum on April 23...actually did the whole VIP meet & greet thing with front row seats...at least I'll get to meet Nina in person)

Just added: July 10, Soundgarden, Comcast Center Mansfield MA

Will be adding Eddie Vedder at the Wang Center June 16 as soon as I find a good seat.

Tonight! (5/13) - Neko Case / DC
6/2 - Okkervil River / DC
6/8 - Arcade Fire / Charlottesville
6/17&18 - U2 / Anaheim (have my travel plans sorted, still need to acquire GAs)
6/22 - U2 / B'more (probably)
