I haven't heard Broken Boy Soldiers for some reason. I'll fix that.

I got my vinyl copy today. Gimmicks aside, the album is great. I would love a regular vinyl edition however.

I quoted Pitchfork because my statement about Satan being hastily done was questioned.

I don't dislike the album, just don't get as much pleasure out of it as I do with the others. I appreciate the experimentation but the tunes just aren't there for me. It has higher peaks than the self-titled but the latter is probably more consistent.

Not sure why Icky Thump gets so much shit. Because it doesn't do anything new? It's a hell of a lot of fun and has a considerable number of standout tracks.

Why I was disappointed by Icky Thump:

-Lack of identity
-Horrible mastering and uncomplimentary production
-Overly wordy lyrics that don't allow the instrumentation to breathe (this is something U2 has suffered from over the past decade)

Really, it was a good place for them to end. Not a bad album, but I don't hear the magic and wonder of the early stuff, which took blues rock and made it sound completely fresh.

There's a rare mono mastering of the Icky Thump vinyl that was mastered by Steve Hoffman and was released as a vault only release many years ago. I'd love to hear it.

I can tell a lot of these songs are quite personal. Which makes me think, Jack has three women? One in California (blonde Renee Zellweger), brunette in Detroit (Meg White) and in Nashville (red head ex wife Karen Elson).

I like it. Pretty raw.

The rest, yeah, are pretty perfect in my mind. Classics. I adore them. Especially WBC and Elephant.

Fuck it, I'll start off the stupid chain of people posting their rankings:

1. White Blood Cells
2. Elephant
3. Satan
4. De Stijl
5. Self-titled
6. Icky Thump

Ranking the Jack White non-Stripes albums:

1. Consolers of the Lonely
2. Broken Boy Soldiers
3. Lazaretto
4. Blunderbuss
5. Horehound
6. Sea of Cowards

^ None of the six above are on par with any of the six Stripes albums, by the way.

Speaking of your first non White Stripes albums, Carolina Drama is one of my favorite songs in the last 10 years.
