Hmmm, I didn't buy a great deal this year..

But from what I did...

Take That - The Circus
You Am I - Dilettantes
Alanis Morissette - Flavours Of Entaglement
Enrique Iglesias - Greatest Hits (I know - but Bailamos man! Ace!)
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
REM - Accelerate
Sigur Ros - squiggle pop Icelandic bjork (whatever the latest one was called)
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Beyonce - I Am (NOT the 'Sasha Fierce' shit though - strictly CD1)
ACDC - Black Ice

I think I liked a lot more 'singles' over albums. I did like Gavin De Graw's latest as well as Taylor Swift. I 'like' Pink's new album, but dont 'love' it. I wanted to love the new NKOTB cd but frankly it was arse. I just dont get Kings Of Leon - yeah yeah they ar eok - but great? No.

2009 is looking good - new Dixie Chicks! YES! As well as new Darren Hayes, Barenaked Ladies and Bjork...

1. R.E.M. - Accelerate
2. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig Lazarus Dig!
3. The Racounteurs - Consolers of the Lonely

That's about it for me.

That's odd, my copy has 2007 on the back but maybe that's just when it's licensed and stuff. :hmm:

:uhoh:

1) The Killers - Day & Age
2) Sun Kil Moon - April
3) M83 - Saturdays = Youth
4) Cut/Copy - In Ghost Colours
5) Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
6) Keane - Perfect Symmetry
7) Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
8) Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid
9) Coldplay - Viva La Vida
10) Starflyer - Dial M

Didn't quite make it:
Shearwater - Rook
Amanda Palmer - Who Killed Amanda Palmer :uhoh: x 100

I think that's it :hmm:

Is Bon Iver's album considered a 2008 release?

I thought it was released in 2007? If not, it would probably be in my top 5 for this year.

The record was almost not released, and was originally intended as a group of demos to be sent out to labels and potentially rerecorded. But after getting very encouraging reactions from a number his friends, Vernon decided to release the songs himself in their present state. After significant positive reception, helped by word of mouth and its popularity throughout the blogosphere, Vernon decided to sign to the indie label Jagjaguwar which subsequently gave the album a proper release in February 2008.

1. Los Campesinos: Hold on Now, Youngster!

5. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
6. Okkervil River: The Stand-Ins

10. French Kicks: Swimming
11. Vampire Weekend: S/T

17. The Breeders: Mountain Battles
18. Man Man, Rabbit Habits

* Bob Dylan: Tell Tale Signs
Ultimately, better than everything else I listed above, but as a collection of outtakes, I can't include it in good conscience. Maybe the most enjoyable thing Dylan's released in almost 20 years, the period of time it actually covers.

* Girl Talk: Feed the Animals
Can't include this with all the original material, but one of the year's more entertaining listens. Still, not much more than a nostalgia trip.

I suck at ranking stuff, so here's a list of my favorite albums from 2008:

Radiohead - In Rainbows
Coldplay - Viva La Vida etc etc etc
Duffy - Rockferry
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Girl Talk - Feed the Animals
Lady GaGa - The Fame
Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges
Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line
Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It
Ray Lamontagne - Gossip In the Grain
Santogold - Santogold
Shelby Lynne - Just a Little Lovin'
Sigur Ros - Med Sud etc etc etc
The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing
TV On the Radio - Dear Science
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
REM - Accelerate (I waffled on this one a bit this year, but it's a good solid effort and a relief to have them somewhat back to form)

I'm not ranking anything, mostly because Scumbo probably would rank.

Some 2008 albums I enjoyed:

Third (Insane people made this record)
The Seldom Seen Kid (Friend of Ours is gorgeous)
In Rainbows
Evil Urges
Accelerate
Hold on Now Youngster! (Talk about a grower)
The Stand Ins
We are Beautiful, we are doomed

I'll go through some people's lists later and check out some of the stuff I did not listen to. Fleet Foxes is on that list, we'll see what else gets added. Threads like these are great, at least for me.

technically it was released digitally in October of 2007 and on Jan 1, 2008 on CD...

I got my "deluxe disc box" in December, so technically it could be argued that it was released on CD in 2007 as well.

In other words, don't listen to anything Elfa says.

Deus- 'Vantage Point'

I saw them yesterday in concert and they were again  . Maybe not as magical as on the last Lowlands festival, where I was really mesmerised, but there were quite a few magical moments.

As for my list, as usual I bought a shitload of CDs this year, but not that many released in 2008. I'll probably buy some other greats in the coming few weeks or maybe somewhere next year (Duffy? Adele? Costello? Dylan?).

My top whatever of this year will probably look somewhat like this:
1. Voicst - A Tale Of Two Devils ( )
2. Gem - New
3. Coldplay - Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends
4. dEUS - Vantage Point
5. Gram - Four-Letter Word
6. Claw Boys Claw - Pajama Day

Yep, most of the new albums I bought this year were Dutch. And quite excellent too!

And I think I just discovered one of the contenders of Album of 2009: Roosbeef with Ze Willen Wel Je Hond Aaien Maar Niet Met Je Praten, again a Dutch record (some weird singer-songwriter stuff with a very peculiar sounding singer). Apparently that one is either up for release on 15 December (doubt it) or somewhere in January.

is that a CONFIRMED fact?

Morrissey wrote a song about it, I'm taking his word

Like we're supposed to know the release dates of all albums in countries not our own?

Well it was digitally released worldwide in 2007 too...and then the deluxe edition in December...and then a CD release in the majority of the world in 2007 but...I guess we can still say it's a 2008 release, for the Americans without the internet anyway

So, I am not ready to rank 'em jus' yet, BUT, I am on the radio tonight with my end-of-semester show.
