Hmmm, I didn't buy a great deal this year..

But from what I did...

Take That - The Circus
You Am I - Dilettantes
Alanis Morissette - Flavours Of Entaglement
Enrique Iglesias - Greatest Hits (I know - but Bailamos man! Ace!)
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
REM - Accelerate
Sigur Ros - squiggle pop Icelandic bjork (whatever the latest one was called)
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Beyonce - I Am (NOT the 'Sasha Fierce' shit though - strictly CD1)
ACDC - Black Ice

I think I liked a lot more 'singles' over albums. I did like Gavin De Graw's latest as well as Taylor Swift. I 'like' Pink's new album, but dont 'love' it. I wanted to love the new NKOTB cd but frankly it was arse. I just dont get Kings Of Leon - yeah yeah they ar eok - but great? No.

2009 is looking good - new Dixie Chicks! YES! As well as new Darren Hayes, Barenaked Ladies and Bjork...

That's odd, my copy has 2007 on the back but maybe that's just when it's licensed and stuff.

Is Bon Iver's album considered a 2008 release?

I thought it was released in 2007? If not, it would probably be in my top 5 for this year.

The record was almost not released, and was originally intended as a group of demos to be sent out to labels and potentially rerecorded. But after getting very encouraging reactions from a number his friends, Vernon decided to release the songs himself in their present state. After significant positive reception, helped by word of mouth and its popularity throughout the blogosphere, Vernon decided to sign to the indie label Jagjaguwar which subsequently gave the album a proper release in February 2008.

1. Los Campesinos: Hold on Now, Youngster!
2. SM/Jicks: Real Emotional Trash
3. Los Campesinos: We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed (not released here yet, but I've had it for several months)
4. The Raveonettes: Lust Lust Lust (released in U.S. 2/08)
5. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
6. Okkervil River: The Stand-Ins
7. My Morning Jacket: Evil Urges
8. Bauhaus: Go Away White
9. Van Morrison: Keep It Simple
10. French Kicks: Swimming
11. Vampire Weekend: S/T
12. The Dø: A Mouthful
13. Neon Neon: Stainless Style
14. Islands, Arm's Way
15. She & Him: Vol. 1
16. R.E.M.: Accelerate
17. The Breeders: Mountain Battles
18. Man Man, Rabbit Habits

* Bob Dylan: Tell Tale Signs
Ultimately, better than everything else I listed above, but as a collection of outtakes, I can't include it in good conscience. Maybe the most enjoyable thing Dylan's released in almost 20 years, the period of time it actually covers.

* Girl Talk: Feed the Animals
Can't include this with all the original material, but one of the year's more entertaining listens. Still, not much more than a nostalgia trip.

I suck at ranking stuff, so here's a list of my favorite albums from 2008:

Radiohead - In Rainbows
Coldplay - Viva La Vida etc etc etc
Duffy - Rockferry
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Girl Talk - Feed the Animals
Lady GaGa - The Fame
Ladyhawke - Ladyhawke
My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges
Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line
Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It
Ray Lamontagne - Gossip In the Grain
Santogold - Santogold
Shelby Lynne - Just a Little Lovin'
Sigur Ros - Med Sud etc etc etc
The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing
TV On the Radio - Dear Science
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
REM - Accelerate (I waffled on this one a bit this year, but it's a good solid effort and a relief to have them somewhat back to form)

I'm not ranking anything, mostly because Scumbo probably would rank.

Some 2008 albums I enjoyed:

Third (Insane people made this record)
The Seldom Seen Kid (Friend of Ours is gorgeous)
In Rainbows
Evil Urges
Accelerate
Hold on Now Youngster! (Talk about a grower)
The Stand Ins
We are Beautiful, we are doomed

I'll go through some people's lists later and check out some of the stuff I did not listen to. Fleet Foxes is on that list, we'll see what else gets added. Threads like these are great, at least for me.

I got my "deluxe disc box" in December, so technically it could be argued that it was released on CD in 2007 as well.

In other words, don't listen to anything Elfa says.
