You should enjoy it; it's great. Halftime and Life's A Bitch FTW.

Memory Lane and NY State of Mind are classics, too.

Illmatic is far and away my favourite hip-hop album. There isn't one "good" track on there. Every one is fantastic.

I'm going to try to fit something from Illmatic on my next Desert Island playlist. Not sure what. But it's a concept album and needs some of Illmatic's urban charm, that's all I know.

Well if you were on a desert island, I guess you'd have to go with Life's a Bitch, no? :hmm:

It is my favorite song on the album. But hey, these things involve careful analysis and all that jazz. We shall see.

I'm giving The Infamous a spin right now. Very affecting album. Gangsta rap is garbage when the artist feeding it to you clearly does not know what they're talking about. However, when the artist has experience and a way with a beat, it can be really powerful.

I tend to prefer the darker and more intense east coast rap myself, but Dre made hot beats. DOGGYSTYLE FTMFW.

Mobb Deep really sold out, but The Infamous is a terrific LP.

I'm thinking now that both Radiohead and Pink Floyd Survivors are winding down, we might make a hip-hop game of some type. Perhaps a Survivor of Old-School and Golden Age artists (cause lord knows Lil Wayne does not deserve to be voted on for anything) similar to the Classic Rock Survivor I did a few years ago.

As long as nobody has any major objections, I'm going to start coming up with some groupings and see how people feel.

One last post to tide you all over while I'm gone (does anyone actually watch any of these videos? ).

Just another thought/question to throw out here...almost all of the hip-hop artists we are talking about here are men....who are some of the best female hip-hop artists?

Bahamadia is great

I also like Princess Superstar she did a track with Kool Keith btw, someone mentioned him

Ursula Rucker is more spoken word than hip hop, but I have seen her recently and she´s amazing

As to males, I think B Real is one of the best. I dont like Em or JayZ. I prefer old skool NWA, Arabian Prince, Dre, ..Public Enemy. Deliquent Habits and I like French and Austrian and African rap.

Desdamona, if you can find any of her stuff, is amazing. She's from Minneapolis/St. Paul, and I just saw her along with Carnage (a beatboxer). Both were great.

never been on this thread before, found out some good tunes

i'm making a hip-hop compilation now for the summer to sit back and chill to. anyone got any good tunes to recommend?

some of the stuff i've got so far:
