Great 80s

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Man, this is a quality thread. why no more appreciation for 80s pop? Reminds me of being a kid. Theres a LOT of nostalgia in so many of these tunes. I'll post a few. They might not all have the drenched synth atmosphere, but they're solid either way

YouTube - IDLE EYES - Tokyo Rose

A little Canadian flavour in most of those
I'll think of a few more while i'm listening to the ones you posted

I love a lot of 80s music, but threads like these, with lots of YouTube videos, totally slow up my computer and I get too frustrated to sit and wait for the page to load.

So I'll be with you in 80s-loving spirit. :)

Someone throw in some a-ha (that isn't Take On Me) for me.

the good thing about the 80s was that quality bands (U2, Talk Talk, Talking Heads) were easily able to have hit singles

ah, fair enough. I wonder if putting them in titled spoiler tags would help or if they're loaded before hand....Also, no '80s thread is complete with out this!

God I could be here into next week if I posted all my favourite 80s vids, it's when I came of musical age

Loving what's been posted already (except for Yes and Whitesnake, really no call for that! )

I Want My MTV

Some good ones here -- I can't tell you how nostalgic I feel after seeing that Spoons video, the first time I've seen it since 1985 or so (yes, I'm Canadian too).

Nothing says "80s" like A Flock of Seagulls hair and Frankie Goes to Hollywood T-shirts ("Frankie say: Relax, don't do it!").

Anyway, here's a scan through that big-hair, shoulder-pads and legwarmers' decade:

1981: Rick Springfield -- Jessie's Girl (classic power pop)
YouTube - Rick Springfield- Jessies girl

1982: Yazoo -- Don't Go (classic new-wave synthesizer riff)

1983: The Police -- Every Breath You Take (all time great song + great video)
YouTube - The Police - Every Breath You Take: Black And White Version, Relaid Audio

1984: Frankie Goes To Hollywood -- Relax (I think this is the USA-MTV video)
YouTube - Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax (Don't Do It)

1985: Debarge -- Rhythm of the Night (check the Black mullet + moustache combo)
YouTube - DeBarge - Rhythm Of The Night: Cut 1

1986: Wang Chun -- Everybody have Fun Tonight (doesn't get more 80s than this!)
YouTube - Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun Tonight

1987: Bryan Adams -- Remembrance Day (amateur video, but nice WWI tribute...Canadian perspective)
YouTube - Remembrace Day - Brian Adams

1988: Tracy Chapman -- Fast Car (who could forget this classic debut?)
YouTube - Tracy Chapman - fast car Video

1989: Young MC -- Bust a Move (legendary!! -- "don't hang yourself with a celibate rope!")

In the 80s there where also experimental music :)

Whats intressting about the 80s is that alot of styles was getting its footprints, techno, hip hop and dance.

All the best dance stuff was written in 1989, or before.

Old skool FTW.
