I finally had a good listen to it yesterday. I liked it a lot. Definitely better than Build A Rocket Boys.

The highlights are are Charge, Real Life (Angel) and most of all Lunette. That's one of the best things they've ever done. Luckily (for me) New York Morning is one of the lesser songs. It's bombastic Elbow at its worst, just like a few songs on Build A Rocket Boys. It's still decent though.

A good hangover band, this.

I really like those extended guitar lines in Fly Boy Blue, accompanied by the horns.

I kind of agree with this - I like it less the more I listen to it. It's still a decent song, don't get me wrong but the lyrics are sappy and clunky in parts and overall it feels like too much of an attempt to recreate One Day Like This.

All the songs have something good but my favourites so far are:

Fly Boy Blue/Lunette
New York Morning
My Sad Captains (favourite)
Colour Fields
The Taking off and Landing of Everything

Yup.

I sorta feel this way about their last couple albums as a whole....

Definitely. I'm not even saying anything bad about it, my personal tastes just fall more inside of their first three albums than the last three.

see, I don't care for Asleep In Back very much There are some songs here and there I don't mind but I actually think I even like Cast Of Thousands more...

My top two are Leaders and Kid and they are pretty much tied at this point, I can't decide which is better.

I really liked their "rock" songs, which unfortunately they haven't seemed interested in writing since Grounds For Divorce. I think this new album is really nice, but it has the same problem for me as the prior two, at some point in listening to it, I feel like I've been hearing the same song for 40 minutes.

But at least it's a pretty song.

I can understand that, though. This is definitely a more subtle album with less variety than Leaders or SSK, although I'd make the same claim about Asleep in the Back, too.

And I kind of agree with the recent comments on New York Morning, though I feel like the title track is even more guilty of trying to recapture One Day Like This glory. Still think it's a great song. But I find myself drawn to other tracks more - Fly Boy Blue/Lunette in particular.

I can see this - there isn't any real "rocker" on this album, maybe Charge but even it is a little on the slow side...

This is my favorite thing they've done since Asleep in the Back, & the title track is instantly fighting for my favorite Elbow song.
