Admittedly, I haven't thought about them much the last four years, but I'll welcome news of their new album and single all the same.

The grit: The fourth Doves album, Kingdom of Rust, will be released on April 6 in the UK and a day later on Astralwerks in the U.S. The trio are playing a few UK dates in advance of the album's release, as well. A U.S. tour will follow later in the spring.

You can download first single "Jetstream" for free at the group's newly revamped website. Considering it's a comeback single and all, the propulsive track never fully, you know, takes off. Still: Better than Travis.

Thanks to Robert Zuehlke for the heads up.

Kingdom of Rust:

01 Jetstream
02 Kingdom of Rust
03 The Outsiders
04 Winter Hill
05 10.03
06 The Greatest Denier
07 Birds Flew Backwards
08 Spellbound
09 Compulsion
10 House of Mirrors
11 Lifelines

Dates:

03-12 Warrington, England - Parr Hall
03-13 Middlesbrough, England - Empire
03-15 Glasgow, Scotland - ABC
03-17 Coventry, England - Kasbah
03-18 Portsmouth, England - Pyramids
03-19 London, England - Forum
Jetstream is not the first single...Kingdom of Rust is.

Ok, gave Jetstream a few more listens, and I definitely like it better than after my one listen this morning.

Now STFU.

Me too!

this new Doves song! I'm really surprised too b/c I thought I read a blog post of theirs a while ago where they said they had gone in a more acoustic, "country"-ish direction. There's really nothing country about 'Jetstream' - and that is A-OK by me!

I think they were just talking about the direction they went on one song in that article, I don't remember.

Now that I think about it, it was a blog on their MySpace page. And yeah, I think they said a lot of the songs had an acoustic flavor, but that they hadn't gone all country.

That's what it was.

Still, this first song sounds nothing like acoustic. Again, fine by me. Fitz doesn't much care for acoustic-y stuff.

i heard the single, Kingdom of Rust, today on BBC 1 radio (streamed online, as i live in the US), and it's an amazing song. it has a cool Ennio Morricone vibe to it, by no means an "acoustic" based song. There are orchestral flourishes and lots of cool sounds...you definitely need to hear a CD quality rip to fully appreciate. The usual Doves epic greatness.

Thank you for posting the link. I hear the country sound influence loud and clear on the Kingdom of Rust. I like it.
