Destroyer - Kaputt (AKA NSW: NEVAR Forget)

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Haha well I'd never heard of Swan Lake until just now. I will get around to New Pornographers. Eventually. I'll listen to Twin Cinema before the year is out.

Hmm. I'm gonna have to find the real version to compare. I'm woefully ignorant of New Order. Do you know if this was a recent recording?

This part made me lol.

his melodies that have always felt so natural (this is important)

I listened to it on Spotify yesterday. I liked it a lot, but likely would have loved it were it in English.

Finally got around to listening to the EP, anyone else heard it? It's pretty solid "María de las nieves" and "Babieca" are great.

They're stunners, for sure.

The Spanish-language flair transcends its value as a novelty item. Between this and the last record, I'm sold immediately on anything this act puts out.

Finally getting around to this one. All I know is, I can't listen to "El Rito" without hearing Deep Purple's "Woman From Tokyo."

Such a huge portion of my favorite music features lyrics that run the spectrum (at least to me) of impressionist at best to tossed off at worst - early R.E.M., most of my shoegaze albums, GBV, Phoenix. I can love music for a produced emotion.

Maybe Destroyer is an exception. I think I'm sold on Bejar's lyrical twists. This one's working me over.

"Maria" is a potentially nice song.

I haven't bothered looking up translations for this EP, but I love his lyrics dearly.

If there's a better way of saying "I saw the girl I like with another bloke" than "And I'm reminded of the time that I was blinded by the sun / it was a welcome change from the sight of you hanging like a willow off the arm of yet another visionary / profitious East Van. punk" then I'm yet to hear it.

I literally fucking gasped and said "oh my god" when I saw this on twitter just now :hyper::combust::love::applaud::drool:

Honestly listening to this song right now, and it's really good, it's got all the horns from Kaputt but rocks the fuck out like earlier work, I am just about in tears I'm so goddamn happy. I don't know, I just felt like maybe they wouldn't come back, he'd either go proper solo or fully Spanish, I seem to remember him saying he wasn't interested in another Destroyer album.

Dates in the US and Europe as well, can only pray that he somehow finds his way to Australia.

Weird. I listened to Kaputt for the first time in ages this morning in the subway. I like this new song, and would enjoy an album with this kind of sound.

New track strikes me as very reminiscent of New Pornographers for some reason (and yes, I know he is associated with them). Looking forward to the new album - has it really been five years since Kaputt?

It's like a cross between Kaputt and Rubies. If he can pull that off over a whole album we might have an all-timer. Rubies is fucking tremendous.

God I wish more people knew about this band though :(

I bought it years ago, but I finally dusted off This Night tonight for a spin. Once again, a real good record. Some flat spots, as there is with nearly every record of theirs aside from two or three, but the highs immediately reminded me of why I love this band so much.

The title track is a beautiful opener

And I also really loved songs like Here Comes the Night, Trembling Peacock, I Have Seen a Light and Self-Portrait with Thing.

Cannot wait for the new album.
