This is a really weird opinion, particularly from you.

He should at least be obsessed with Myriad Harbour or something. It's more popular than any Destroyer song, for fuck's sake.

Destroyer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The New Pornographers

I listened to Twin Cinema a couple of times and it didn't do much for me. It was just decent. Show me a song that's half as good as Rubies, Bay of Pigs, Kaputt, European Oils, The Bad Arts... and I might reconsider.

The aforementioned Myriad Harbour is a Bejar song, I personally prefer it to everything he's ever done in Destroyer.

A few other Bejar NP songs to check out (you guys should at least like these, for heaven's sake): Jackie, Testament to Youth In Verse, Jackie's Dressed in Cobras, Silver Jenny Dollar, Broken Beads, Streets on Fire, If You Can't See My Mirrors, Daughter of Sorrow.

Outside of all of this, if you don't recognize Sing Me Spanish Techno as one of the most enjoyable indie pop songs of the last decade, may Hades bring everlasting torment to your souls.

I understand the appeal of New Pornographers. For me, though, it comes down to NP being fairly straight-forward indie rock, whereas each Destroyer album I have heard has had a unique aesthetic or an interesting, off-kilter take on the genre. Destroyer has far more replay value in that regard.

Myriad Harbour is a good song. Bejar's songs tend to be my favorite NP songs. Silver Jenny Dollar is the best I've heard so far.

But I still like his solo stuff more.

Well, I mean, how do you judge a "good song?" Personally, I think the songwriting is much better on the first few Pornos albums than most Destroyer stuff. Listen to them all in a row and you have two straight hours of masterful power pop. Destroyer songs break the pop mold in half, but that doesn't mean they're inherently superior, just different.

Again, the two acts don't have very much in common.

I can't tell if you're actually annoyed or just fucking with me mofo... either way I don't mind in the slightest.

Myriad Harbour is a great song (cool video too) but there's at least 10 or so Destroyer songs I'll take over that (Niels we pretty much have the same favourite songs). I'm surprised you think it's better than anything Destroyer has done considering how effusive you have been in your love for European Oils, and how you can never listen to Painter in My Pocket without it.

Sing Me Spanish Techno is pretty great. Jackie Dressed in Cobras is enjoyable as well. Silver Jenny Dollar as well, that's on Together.

Just more of a Destroyer fan don't let run your blood pressure too high, my friends.

I'm once again just expressing my bafflement that you haven't heard one of the greatest albums of the 00's, that's all.

I haven't heard millions of albums considered the greatest of their respective decades. I'll get there eventually.

Initial critical response to Twin Cinema was very positive. At Metacritic (which assigns to reviews from mainstream critics a normalized rating out of 100), the album has received a score of 85, based on 32 reviews. Online music magazine PopMatters ranked the album at #1 on their Best Music of 2005 list. Pitchfork Media placed Twin Cinema at number 150 on their list of top 200 albums of the 2000s.

Christgau didn't much care for it though, so I'm not sure you should bother.

I'd've let you off the hook if you hadn't listened to Together first
