I heard on the radio he had a new song world premiere today. Anyone know anything about that?

We've been talking about best albums of the decade lately, and as I listen to Kaputt again now, it needs to be seriously included in that discussion. Such a unique vibe.

I agree! It's so different than anything else on most lists, and still sounds pretty fresh.

Crimson Tide sounds great. I've seen him play it live, it's been around about a year, but only acoustic. There are very few things that get me as excited than news of a new Destroyer album, I cannot fucking wait. The sound is wicked, the cover is wicked, the tracklist looks great and includes another new song he's been playing for a while (Cue Synthesiser).

And re Kaputt... duh. It's not my #1 one of the decade, but it might very well be the #2. It is a fucking absolute masterwork that holds up insanely well. I think it's fair to say it's timeless, given it wasn't of its time when it was released but sounded so good, and eight years on, still sounds so good and fresh.

HAVE WE MET!!! New Destroyer album. It's fantastic. (And that's not just me saying it, there's a heap of good reviews for it out.) My swirly coloured vinyl arrived a day early and I just finished playing it for the first time.

An interesting array of sounds. I wasn't a big fan of ken, sadly, I adored Sky's Grey but a lot of the rest fell pretty flat for me, with a reasonably homogenous synth-led sound and phoned-in lyricism, from what I recall of it, which is rare for him. That's not an issue on this record, which is much more interesting musically and lyrically. It is still, I would say, synth-led, but also contains a heap of guitar and propulsive drumming. Lyric-wise, it is a Dan Bejar record through and through with more than its fair share of nonsensical Bejar-isms (my favourite being a painting titled 'A Girl And Her Broom' tied into the city of Nagasaki fighting with the Devil), but with a more sardonic bent than I've heard from him before - songwriters are called chickenshits, novellists are called Shitheads #1 and #2 and Cue Synthesiser is as damning a song he's written. And it also nails his modus operandi - "sing the least poetic thing you can think of and try to make it sound beautiful" - so well, there are several lines/lyrics that hit home for me, despite their relative absurdity.

Need more time with the record to deep dive more, which I'll do whether anyone replies here or not, but yeah, I really like it. Standout songs at the moment are Crimson Tide, Kinda Dark, The Raven, Cue Synthesiser, Have We Met, The Man in Black's Blues and foolssong, which is more than half the album, so that's great. The end to foolssong is infuriating, but hey, Bejar does and Bejar does.

Of the tracks released to radio, I loved Cue Synthesizer. Looking forward to hearing the rest.

I often forget about his work with New Pornographers, but Myriad Harbor is an awesome song.

Have We Met is much better than Ken and I'm so glad I bought tickets to the upcoming LA gig.

The Raven is one of the best Destroyer tracks in a while.

Second listen now, with my morning coffee, and loving it. I am not ready to say it's the best since Kaputt yet, but I think I'll probably get there. I really like Poison Season and think it's underrated, but I don't think it hangs together well as a record. There's a heap of songs I go back to - Dream Lover, Times Square, Archer on the Beach, Bangkok, Girl in a Sling - but it doesn't flow particularly well, whereas Have We Met does effortlessly.

Poison Season's first half is better than any stretch on Have We Met but Have We Met is a better and more complete album.

On my Rushmore. My Favourite Year / European Oils / Archer on the Beach / The Bad Arts

The other thing about Have We Met I’m impressed with is how catchy it is. After two listens I can recite most of the tracks.

Mine would be almost all Kaputt lol

The strangest color vinyl in my collection is Skee Mask's Compro. The album cover is a washed-out blizzard scene in blue and grey, but the vinyl is bright yellow.

It could be fancier, but I like that it's at least closer. Though I'm now noticing it's sorta pink which is also odd.

Was listening to Denzel Curry and then Destroyer came on... the Five Spanish Songs EP they put out a few years ago. I think I gave it a cursory listen once, but damn, it's really good! This song is amazing:

I've heard Rubies, Streethawk, Your Blues, and Trouble in Dreams, but only once each. Not familiar enough to rank them.
