Does The Metropolis Dream of Innocence?

We are children of a lesser groom, the mistakes of a strobe light room,
Where strangers flock and lose themselves in Technicolor attire.
We are creatures of the night, running for our lives in a spinning city,
Seeking sanctuary in backstreets but stumbling forth from beneath the globe.
Fearless fashion, even artists by some description,
Yet it is all a zombie occupation where the anthill moans.
On the corners, vicious vicars advertising the latest faith,
They lead you from the charcoal darkness into a silver, sterile haven.
In this holy site, and holy if simply clean, they explain this dangerous game,
“It is a lithium and synthetic religion of exterior revision
--through simian precision!”

We are the howl, the cavernous growl, the sacred scream
The invisible men in a ghost world, hiding even from itself.
Like a symphony the mood inside us changes to a gloomy awareness,
Paralysis when the passing feeling still persists.
Homegrown and vengeful, harlequins and harmless heroes in pain,
The Metropolis is faded, the Ginza guardians have abandoned their posts,
The silver towers and poles of white bleed in the black and acid rain.
Like an unfinished symphony the nighttime roar at times falls silent,
Breathless smokestacks pump the city’s lifeblood no longer.
A longing shadow creeps, it tries to the follow the caravan,
The caravan of puppets, sheep and freaks seeks the edge of the world.
Gargoyles and gas plant pillars, garbage pylons and broken glass giants.
Like ghosts caste out of the next world into a kingdom of ash and cinder,
Fashioned to please the nearly blind or at least conditioned to depress.

In a capital of a ghost world, seek no dreams
Yet in the center circle there spins a massive globe: The Jupiter Ghost.
In a starless sky, wish only upon the ghost.
Mourn for the future by gathering beneath a behemoth,
A memory of a universe no longer seen.
Through the static and electric storm,
Heaven held but Earth bound,
Bright light and a carnival in eternal night.
On the windowsill a population of dreams tries to reach the atmosphere.
If only to dream up a new world
If only to dream louder than the motor crawl, the insufferable growl.
The heavy clouds may bring a dangerous rain,
To the electric dreams of a Metropolis.
The city desired rainbows so they created Technicolor lights
The city sought a guiding star so they tied down their perfect planet.

It all begs one question, a gentle sounding question,
One with a touch of class and lyrical flair,
With a bellowing and brightly lit behemoth
With sheets over its head even in dreamtime,
Does the Metropolis dream of innocence?

In terms of songs I didn't know before but now love, Screwtape's list had the most. The flow was impeccable as well. Congrats Screw!

P.S. I watched Ghost in the Shell 2 years ago, still remember good chunks of it, but I still have no idea what the hell was happening throughout the entire film.

If poems were the deciding factor, even Chuck Norris would have a hard time beating The Metropolis. And the Fake List. Thankfully, Screw's music was just as mellifluous, as well as other Pitchfork adjectives. Again, great job.

Roll on, DI9. No prisoners.

Just so I can sleep tonight, who placed me first? Was it you, Reggo? Collapse? Where is my DI valentine? :scream:

I'll satisfy Traviud's curiosity. Some of it anyway.

1. IWasBored
2. iron yuppie
3. Joey
4. Axver
5. phanan
6. Screw <--this damn near killed me. I wish I could've tied you all for first.

Hey Phanan, your playlist was amazing and I had it at #3. You keep making great playlists and that streak of three straight runner-ups is a testament to that.

Oh and seriously who placed you at #15?!

Thanks man!

I'll let the person who ranked me that low post it, if they wish. I wouldn't want to presume that they would mind.

No worries either way. When I first created this playlist, I had no idea it would do this well, and I'm happy quite a few people enjoyed it despite the specific musical genres involved.

Joey was my number 1 list.
Friggin Cobbler was number 2.
Cass was number 3.
Axver was number 4.
UV92 was number 5.

It's because I need sleep that I can't put it together now.

Gft.

One day, I'll be rich and powerful like Phanan and start a DI store that runs 24/7. And then I'll be homeless because that's an awful idea.
