Welcome to the sixth match of the fourth round for Interference Desert Island V! The premise of this game is that all of the Interferencers have been stranded on a desert island and we can only take up to 160 minutes of music with us (either as a continuous iPod playlist or two 80 minute CDs or any other format of our choosing). The object is to see which forum member can fit the most musical goodness into these 160 minutes.

For every win, each player will receive three points. If there is a tie, each player gets two points. If a player loses a match but is within three votes of the winner, that player will earn a single point.

At the beginning of each round, I will include the updated standings. Remember, the top two from each group moves on to the quarterfinals.

LemonMacPhisto easily defeated DreamOutLoud13 in Match 2 by the score of 10-2 (include's Ali's vote).

This match has Lancemc doing battle with AtomicBono. Below are their playlists.

If you don't know the songs, or wish to hear how each playlist flows, feel free to check out the Desert Island website. :)

AtomicBono's Desert Island V: Surviving Another Summer

I had no theme in mind when creating this playlist. It's simply a list of songs I love that I think flows well. I did end up dividing it into sections in a vaguely thematic way, but I want this to be viewed as one big playlist - I just think it's easier to split it up in case people don't have enough time to listen to it as a whole. I don't expect people to love every song on this list, but hopefully the sheer diversity of music will be appreciated. There should be something for everyone.

Let's Stay Up All Night (Things Start Out Alright)

1. Dropkick Murphys - "I'm Shipping Up To Boston" - The Departed Soundtrack (2:34)

4. Dungeon Family - "Emergency" - Even In Darkness (5:03)
5. Brazilian Girls - "Jique" - Talk To La Bomb (4:15)
6. M.I.A. - "Paper Planes" - Kala (3:25)
7. Thrice - "Firebreather" - The Alchemy Index Vols 1&2: Fire and Water (4:24)

Nostalgia, Pt. 1 (Remember When...)

8. Arcade Fire - "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" - Funeral (4:48)
9. Explosions in the Sky - "A Song For Our Fathers" - How Strange, Innocence (5:44)
10. These Arms Are Snakes - "Child Chicken Play" - Easter (3:14)

Competition master list.

Have fun!

This was tough. I liked a few more songs on Lance's list, but his sequencing in some parts was awful, whereas I thought AB did a good job putting her list together, despite including songs I don't care for.

So I went with AB.

I'm curious as to which which parts of my list are particularly awful, since I never listened to it myself as you all know.

Clusters of songs worked, but they seemed random in their placement. For example, I dug the songs here, but the order was patchy at best:

5. Arcade Fire – “Keep The Car Running” – Neon Bible (3:29)
6. LCD Soundsystem – “Too Much Love” – LCD Soundsystem (5:42)
7. Joy Division – “Isolation” – Closer (2:54)
8. The National – “Mistaken for Strangers” – Boxer (3:33)
9. Iron & Wine – “Promising Light” – The Creek Drank The Cradle (2:49)
10. New Order – “Your Silent Face” – Power, Corruption & Lies (5:59)
11. Talking Heads – “Houses in Motion” – Remain in Light (4:33)

Arcade Fire -> LCD was especially rough... and it sounded like it belonged more with the New Order/Talking Heads section.

In my totally professionalistic opinion, it would have taken only another hour of work to make Lance's list flow somewhat adequately.

And, by setting the bar at an hour, I'm hedging my bets; I only spend a half hour on my lists.
