Welcome to the eighth and final match of the second round for Interference Desert Island V! The premise of this game is that all of the Interferencers have been stranded on a desert island and we can only take up to 160 minutes of music with us (either as a continuous iPod playlist or two 80 minute CDs or any other format of our choosing). The object is to see which forum member can fit the most musical goodness into these 160 minutes.

For every win, each player will receive three points. If there is a tie, each player gets two points. If a player loses a match but is within three votes of the winner, that player will earn a single point.

At the beginning of each round, I will include the updated standings. Remember, the top two from each group moves on to the quarterfinals.

phanan won the fourth match, beating impy13, 10-2.

Match 8 of Round 2 is RegularBonoFan and Alisaura. Below are their playlists.

If you don't know the songs, or wish to hear how each playlist flows, feel free to check out the Desert Island website. :)

Escapism

You've been working here for three and a half years. It's the longest you've ever been in the same job. Three and a half years of fixing other people's mistakes, solving other people's problems, cleaning up other people's fuckups, copping other people's shit. Three and a half years of boring, tedious work that you're not remotely interested in, and never were. Three and a half years of
"this will do until I get a better job", or "just until I get back from my holiday".

You're sick of it. You want out. You've had some meltdowns, but that was before you stopped giving a shit. Now you're sick of the apathy, on top of everything else.

And you know things could be worse, and that you have nothing to complain about. But somehow, that doesn't help.

Sometimes it feels like the only thing keeping you sane is music. For a few minutes at a time, you can escape, one way or another. Some tracks can pull you out of your own head and take you away somewhere (pays to be careful of those while driving). Some echo all the crap you keep bottled up... the futile frustration, the smothered violence, the self-indulgent wangst. Some of them are loud enough to drown out all the other noise in your head; and some just have a killer bassline that you can feel resonating in your bones.

However they do it, they allow you to forget, for a while, where you are.

UP NEXT: Zootlesque vs. DreamOutLoud13

Competition master list.

Have fun!

Ali's, there was some stuff I really don't like it all, but also some real good stuff. It will reap in anyone that listens to Triple J, that's for sure.

I feel like Reggo's History of Rock thing was a good concept, though I would have preferred to see it in larger blocks, I think that could have made for some interesting inbetweeners between subgenres. Some odd choices representing, too. Not a bad list at all, though. But I think Ali's was more daring, and I can dig that.

I dig both of these lists for sure, but I think Reggo has the the slight advantage for me.

This was tough. I knew more songs on Reggo's list, but when listening to Ali's, I discovered several awesome songs. However, there was also several things I didn't like. In the end, the enormous amount of classics on Reggo's list was tough to ignore.

Here's my dilemma, try and follow my logic:

when I vote on DI, I try to follow the object of the game and vote for a list i'd more like to be trapped on a Desert Island with. Now, if you know me well, then obviously for me that list is Reggo's because of the songs. On the other hand. I do enjoy hearing new music from these contests, and there were only a handful of songs on Reg's list I didn't know, and what I didn't know I didn't care much for. But on Ali's list there were a LOT of songs I didn't know, and I mostly enjoyed them all. A few of them I'm already listening to again and am curious about other material by them.

So: personally, Reggo. Creatively, Ali.

I'M TORN

The John Butler song blew my mind, because I only know one other song by them, and it was on a cd at work, so I was forced against my will to listen to it and I wanted to shoot something everytime it came on. But I actually saved the JBT song to my computer (I burned everything to disc and deleted the remains from my computer, but now that I've got all the lists downloaded I'm going back through them and saving one or two songs I really loved from each list) as well as the Boom Crash Opera song

I think I'll vote for Ali since it won't change much with vote totals

I didn't feel like retyping all that  but petty much this is how I came to my decision to vote for Ali, she doesn't deserve to lose by as much as she was

Full props to Reggo for an awesome list... EP #4 in particular rocked my world. And I finally found out what song Kashmir is!

still voted for mine tho :reject:

For serious. It's got five minutes left. Is a dramatic turn of events in the future? STAY TUNED!
