Is it sad that I'm already going to start working on my next entry? Although I suppose I shouldn't go too far until we know if the time limit is going to change. I'll say it again: I think 2 hours would be a fair compromise between the folks who want to keep it at 160 minutes and the folks who want to knock it down to 80 minutes. The two "discs" is becoming less and less of a thing as CDs are on the decline. Two hours makes sense to me and would make the listening process easier.

Anyway, it'd be cool to try out a multiple winner format in doing both the voting and the ranking. But if other people don't like it, I won't sweat it too much. It just seems like both worlds existing simultaneously would be a nice compromise, and like I mentioned before, it'd be fun discussing the contrast. And these things are really about finding new music and discussing stuff we love, so I just can't see a downside.

Anyway, thanks to everyone again for being a part of this thing. My amazon wish list has grown by about 20 albums now.

I'm down for a 2 hour limit.

But more importantly, I don't see why we need to wait so long regardless.

Is this because people want to take 6 months to perfect a list in hopes of winning? I just want to share and hear more music.

If there are enough people interested in participating, the people who feel it's too soon can just sit that round out.

Sorry if this sounds aggressive for someone who just completed his first DI.

I could totally put together another last place-worthy list.

You only had me beat by 6 points IWB, I reckon I could muster last place next time.

I'm all up for another competition, it's mainly always been about the music sharing for me.

If I can find a way to cut 9-10 songs out of either of the playlists I'm working on, I'll participate in a 120 DI. Otherwise, I'll just be submitting something I don't really like when there are going to be more enthusiastic people who can take my place. It's just not enough time for me. Not being all high and mighty, it's just a subjective thing. I wish I had 200 minutes to work with.

Personally, I don't see the issue with 160 minute lists. The entire top 5 was comprised of them, so clearly they aren't a hindrance, and I think a modified voting format will cause the length to be parsed out better. I find value in them, and I believe they should remain an option. People gravitate towards making them because they love music and want more of it. If someone doesn't see value in having such a large quantity, they should take a different route, which is finally being encouraged (believe it or not, there were very few lists that didn't reach the limit prior to DI6 or so). As long as I'm running DI, I have no intentions of lowering the limit. If it's a major sticking point, then phanan or someone else can take over if they are willing.

Regardless of what happens, I'm interested in doing a mini DI and want to settle on a theme.

The tendency before was, I think, once every 5 or 6 months. We just went on a bit of a hiatus. I'm not sure there's any reason to way an entire YEAR to do this again.

In the meanwhile, mini-DI is my favorite part of this whole playlist exchange, and the sooner we get one of those up and running, the better, to me.

We just need to pick a theme.

Time for maths:

Break between 1 and 2: 7 months
Break between 2 and 3: 2 months
Break between 3 and 4: 10 months
Break between 4 and 5: 3 months
Break between 5 and 6: 8 months
Break between 6 and 7: 9 months
Break between 7 and 8: 7 months
Break between 8 and 9: 15 months

Average break: 8 months

There are outliers on both ends, but yeah, it's usually about 8 months between standard DIs. It wouldn't kill us to do one sooner, certainly, but it's hardly typical for us to start another one < 7 months after the last one.

Anyone up for a second Retro Island? I didn't get to participate last time and there's a lot of shit leftover from the very new romantic-heavy list that I'm working on.

New wave, basically. Any alternative rock music from 1976-1989.
