Robert was in really good voice and Simon Gallup was looking very cool. Porl had a bit of trouble with some technical stuff and got kinda pissed at the end, I think, I remember him kicking one of his pedals. They also kinda lost the crowd after the big songs - I confess I didn't know quite a bit of the stuff they were playing but the encores got the crowd right back in it. I was especially taken by the whole second encore with all the old songs, very good stuff.

They were throwing out setlists and stuff but I didn't get one, these annoying Caucasian guys who pushed their way to the front, began smoking in a non-smoking venue, and generally spent most of the time taking photos of each other rather than enjoying the music and being obnoxious got one.

Definitely something I'll remember for a long time to come.
Glad you enjoyed yourself, yetle-the-turtle! I'm afraid I'm going to try and not read your setlist because I did that a lot last tour and it really ruined the surprise for me.

I'm so excited to see the band. I hope I don't get sick and feel awful, though.

Regarding smokers and obnoxious behavior and taking photos, I totally hear you! People doing that stuff always ruins the vibe! Why can't people just go to listen to the music and not treat it like a drunken, noisy party to be noticed. Morons! I went to a Radiohead concert at a venue that is normally an Opera hall, and people were smoking marajuana and cigarettes illegally in this closed venue. Pissed me off. And I was way up so my view of the band was pretty lame and this annoying girl kept holding up her cell phone to take pictures and eclipsed Thom's entire body. Dumb idiot! Another couple kept opening their cellphone to record segments or have a buddy on the other line hear the garbled noise, and this blinding light would interfere with my seeing the band. However, when I told them the problem they covered up the light source, so that was decent of them. And people would always call out a band member's name or scream during a soft portion of a song just to be noticed. Another thing is when some guy lifts his girlfriend on his shoulders so it totally blocks the view of the person behind them! I get a sense people do a lot of these annoying things just to be part of the crowd. It's not natural. At no point in time will someone have to scream "whoo" if no one else is around and they're happy. It's so selfish.

I know some people wil find this whiny, but what's wrong with relaxing and enjoying THE MUSIC without doing it in a way that infringes on the other person's hearing the music and seeing the show. My way doesn't disturb anyone. People who really appreciate music actually listen and don't spend all their time trying to act self-consciously and obnoxiously cool.

Anyway, I'm lucky I have a floor seat this time for the Cure.

Well they are coming Oct. 4th and I want to go but I never can find people that like the same artists I do.

I am glad that the set list was posted. I just wanted to be sure some of the songs I know were played and they all were. I am sorta a weird person when it comes to music. Most of the time I am not really a huge fan of the band till I see them in concert. That happened with U2, Depeche Mode and INXS so I have Galore but nothing else. What should I listen to in order to become more familiar with their stuff?

Well, what I saw of the Cure last night was similar but not quite to what Yertle saw, I was hanging out for Strange Day but it didn't appear, still, got Hundred Years so can't complain! And that second encore, almost the whole of 3 Imaginary Boys Very different to the last time I saw them.

And Robert Smith sure can't dance!

Trance, I hope you end up going to Melb, it was brilliant!!!!!

Me can't go unfortunately, which is a total bummer!

I'm so glad you had a great time though ... I went to see them in Melbourne years ago (was it around '93??!) and they were just brilliant .. and probably one of the LOUDEST concerts I've even been to!

Damnit, I wish I could go to tonight's Melbourne gig. However ... well, I enjoy The Cure, but not so much that I'd pay $100 for crap seats. I'm not looking forward to seeing the set and knowing what I missed out on.

E2: three imaginary boys, fire in cairo, boys don't cry, jumping someone else's train, grinding halt, 10.15 saturday night, killing an arab
This setlist makes me ridiculously jealous, my Singaporian friend (I guess that's debatable, mister "I make sure to have plans when people are in town").

I'm surprised by all the Head on the Door and Three Imaginary Boys rarities, generally it's only Disintegration and Pornography "non-singles" they play. Did 'The Blood' feature 12 string guitars? I can't even imagine how that would sound live.

Here are the tracks I'm most impressed and surprised by: The Blood, Push, Kyoto Song, The Drowning Man, The Kiss, Shake Dog Shake, Shiver and Shake, Three Imaginary Boys, Fire In Cairo, and Grinding Halt. Why Can't I Be You, indeed!

I have my tickets to see them in October, thought it will probably be a "heavy on the new album" type concert by then. I'm actually pretty impressed that they didn't play a single new song at your show.

the cure melb concert ...
mmmmmmmm Rob smith.
got close enough to see the whites of his eyes , and dang it was good. 3 hours of cure rocking goodness .....

the crowd was a bit pathetic though. there were some die hard fans who were great , lots of people dancing way up in the nose bleeds, and then there were the awful chicks that were pushing in, standing in front of me talking and texting the entire concert who didnt know a single song . i wanted to stick their phones where the sun dont shine.

anyway had a great time, well worth it.

if i can figure it out i will post a couple photos later .

Mr Smith has still got that cheeky naughty thing about him, but hasn't aged all that well, looks like a little tooo much booze to be honest, but still adorable . when he licked his lips and looked right at us in the crowd i just about died .

well folks...looks like the North American Shows have been rescheduled...

Read this:
North American Fall 2007 Cure shows re-scheduled for Spring

8/24/2007 5:58:28 AM - by CURE:ROBERT

With all apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment it may cause, we have made a decision to move the September/October 2007 North American Cure shows to April/May 2008.

The schedule as it stands only gives us a couple of weeks to finish our new double album before we hit the road again, and we know this just isn’t enough time to complete the project to our total satisfaction.

Although this last month’s tour of Australasia showed that a great Cure show is not dependent on a new Cure album, it has to be remembered that we hadn’t played Australia for 7 years, New Zealand for 15 years, Japan for 23 years(!), and Singapore or Hong Kong ever before – so the absence of ‘new’ songs in the set was not really much of an issue.

However, we want to remodel/rework the live show for North America, change things around, incorporate new songs… and we need time and focus to do this.

So although we can agree it is a great shame to move these dates – believe us we have been looking forward to them more than anyone! – and know there will be a lot of disappointed people out there, we honestly feel that in the bigger picture we are making the right decision.

All tickets held for all 2007 North American Cure shows will be valid for the re-scheduled 2008 shows, and of course anyone who seeks a refund will be able to get one.

All validity/refund/rescheduling details will be announced as soon as we have them.

We are still going to headline the San Francisco Download Festival October 6th, and we will still be performing at the MTV Latin America Awards October 18th.

We will also play the three scheduled Sports Palace Mexico City shows October 20th/21st/22nd, as by this point we feel sure we will have finished the new album, and will be more than happy to start dropping a fresh song or three into the set each night…

Once again, our genuine apologies to anyone who is upset by this announcement - please be encouraged by our promise:

The Spring 2008 Cure shows will be even better than the Fall 2007 ones would have been!!!

See you all soon…
Love

Robert, Simon, Jason and Porl – The Cure 24/8/07
