Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall - Keep Sobbing.....

Thought about attaching a icon to the thread title, but figured it might be overkill.

So, carry on talking about the new track, or talk about the upcoming album instead and pretend ETIAW never happened like I'm doing.

GAF mentioned this yesterday, but it has apparently become a thing:

http://www.torontosun.com/2011/06/04...cat-flap-again

I'm not sure what would possess them to "intentionally" steal from that song. You would think a rock band would be loathe to accept responsibility for this, like an adolescent trying to explain away porn to his mother. They broke the mold after they made Chris Martin and Bono.

I've only heard the song in pretty low quality via You Tube and through my phone speakers. Pales next to Violet Hill. I really enjoy the first half of the song, love Martin's vocal, but the whole thing gets too bombastic and goes for at least 30 seconds too long in my reckoning. I suspect this could be a standalone single, I don't see how it could work on an album to be honest.

Wow. The music in that song GAF posted is literally exactly the same.

For the uninitiated:

YouTube - ‪MYSTIC - Ritmo de la Noche - Simon Cowell‬‏

I may actually like this better than the Coldplay cover. Coldplay will probably make a better music video for it though.

So...Coldplay just played a bunch of new songs at Germany's Rock am Ring Festival. Links in the spoiler:

They are apparently not going to make a music video for this song, according to a report on Coldplaying.com. A shame, because this song is crying out for a video, and I don't think that the song alone will generate the commercial appreciation that Coldplay management would be hoping for.

Really excited by those new tracks. Thanks, Nirniva. They sound like...

Parachutes era Coldplay, especially Us Against The World, which reminds me of a cross between Spies and Till Kingdom Come. Charlie Brown is fairly generic Coldplay, but has a strong chorus and overall structure. Major Minor is really interesting musically; I hear some hints of The XX and Florence + The Machine in there, but I don't really hear a hook of any kind. I'm even less sure now how ETIAW will fit into the rest of the album.

That's a damn shame. Coldplay is stellar at videos, perhaps because they realize they're the most awkward band in the world on camera and elect not to dominate their own videos.

If they make a video for "Charlie Brown", it needs to be done like this:

Those other songs make me hopeful again for the new album.

It definitely sounds like they chose a (very) familiar song as lead single. Same thoughts about Major Minus.

Also, did I just hear a guitar solo in a Coldplay song?

Charlie Brown is fairly decent and not very excitement inducing for me, Us Against the World I found to be somewhat boring and lacking. But once again, I really hope there's more of Major Minus on the album. That is what they should be doing.

There's one in Violet Hill that lasts for about 10 seconds.
