I'm looking for the most calming songs ever and to possibly make a compilation from all the suggestions here. These have to be more than just a soft melodic song with a piano. They have to be so relaxing that when I'm lying on my bed with the lights off and these songs playing, it feels like I'm actually here...

Some Floyd songs immediately pop up in my mind...

Grantchester Meadows
Cirrus Minor
Pillow Of Winds
Fearless
San Tropez

Enya of course qualifies I guess. Some Enigma... what else?

Sigur Ros - 'Untitled 1'
Modest Mouse - 'Gravity Rides Everything'
Beirut - 'A Sunday Smile' and/or 'Postcards From Italy'

Broken Social Scene - "Lover's Spit (Redux)"

Not only that, it might be the sexiest fucking thing I've ever heard.

I have friends there, in the Maldives. I'd love to go, do some snorkeling...listen to some soft melodic songs with a piano.

These may or may not fit the bill...but they definitely create a sense of place in my mind.

YouTube - Sarah McLachlan - Drawn to the Rhythm

YouTube - Echo and The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain

YouTube - Heart - Dog & Butterfly (Live 2003)

You'd definitely need some Nick Drake:

Introduction
Fly
Northern Sky
From The Morning

Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys. I liked what I heard from those clips of Rowboat, Drawn to the Rhythm, Ocean Rain etc. Gonna youtube the other songs suggested!

Keep 'em coming! :)

It might not be exactly what you're looking for Zoots but The Beatles "I'm Only Sleeping" has always been a very calming song for me.

Actually Across the Universe from Past Masters 2 with the birds chirping at the beginning I guess might work too. But the music is a little louder than the sort of calming experience I'm looking for.

Different songs calm different people though.

Unbelievers - Travis

Melt - Leftfield

Bad Sun - Bravery

Asleep from Day - Chemical Brothers w/Hope Sandoval
Red Moon - The Walkmen
La Verdad - Juana Molina
Under the Warm Sun - A Girl Called Eddy
The Water - Feist
Let it Be Me - Ray LaMontagne

Friend of Ours - Elbow
Verdi Cries - 10,000 Maniacs
Happiness - Alison Krauss
Sara - Fleetwood Mac
Obscurity Knocks - Trashcan Sinatras
Someone Saved My Life Tonight - Elton John
Find the River - REM
Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty

 Seconded, Thirded and Fourthed. As a tip Zoots, I was looking for this exact sort of music too, and then I tried Nick Drake, and found what I was looking for.

Place to Be, Which Will, At the Chime of a City Clock, Time Has Told Me... Northern Sky is particularly wonderful, and too beautiful to have been written by a man who was supposedly downtrodden about life.

Friend of Ours - Elbow

Alone In Kyoto - Air
Blackbird - The Beatles
See You Soon - Coldplay
Passenger Seat - Death Cab For Cutie
A House - Doves
Scattered Black And Whites - Elbow
Between The Bars - Elliot Smith
Eat Yourself - Goldfrapp
My Lady's House - Iron & Wine
The Rain Falls And The Sky Shudders - Moby
Everloving - Moby
Gagging Order - Radiohead
She Wants To Play Hearts - Ryan Adams
Agaetis Byrjun - Sigur Ros
Góðan Daginn - Sigur Ros
Desert Garden - VAST

"All day long I'm sitting singing songs for everyone..."

Yup, great song. And definitely calming/soothing. Good call.

Zoots mine might not be your taste but here's some chill stuff I like...

Bob Marley - Waiting In Vain, Satisfy My Soul, Rastaman Vibration
Dennis Brown - Here I Come
Gregory Isaacs - Tune In
Morgan Heritage - Down By The River (and Psalm 23 w/Buju Banton)
Roxy Music - Slave To Love
Smokey Robinson - Cruisin
Sade - Your Love is King
Bloodstone - Natural High
Force MDs - Tender Love
Janet Jackson - Funny How Time Flies
Roberta Flack - The Closer I Get To You
SOS Band - Tell Me If You Still Care
The Deele - Two Occasions
Breathe - Hands To Heaven
Depeche Mode - Somebody
Cutting Crew - Been In Love Before

Ok, now I'm just getting corny...don't worry, I know there's alot of cheese there, I'm a sucker for slow jams, what can I say...
