Byrne & Eno - New album

Everything That Happens Will Happen Today

Can be bought or heard streaming here

And it's brilliant!! Althought Byrne's voice takes a bit of getting used to as usual...

Coincidentally, I discovered this album was coming out yesterday, just as I was buying Brian Eno's "Another Green World" and "Discreet Music."

I must admit that "Strange Overtones" is very catchy!

I purchased the download before even hearing it.

Those two have earned my $9 already.

Ah it's a fantastic album - listened through a few times - I know what Martha means though when she says that Byrne sounds a bit "off" at times. One of my best friends who's musical taste I respect greatly can't listen to Byrne or Talking Heads at all, says that he "hasn't a note in his head"!!
He does actually and is singing better than ever these days, its just that weird squeaky vocal tone that he has that people seem to either passionately love or hate - theres very little in-between!!
I love all the gentle poppy stuff - its very simple but theres fantastic detail in both the music and the lyrics. There's a couple of more crazy tunes like "I Feel My Stuff" which rocks a bit like "Memories Can't Wait" in places and "Poor Boy" has a little of the "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts" Vibe to it. Overall it's a great listen and has a couple of absolute classics on it like "Life Is Long" and "Strange Overtones". Well worth a listen...

David Byrne + Brian Eno (Everything That Happens Will Happen Today)

Folks,

May I suggest some really interesting and creative new music for you? Back in the early '80s Brian Eno + David Byrne (of Talking Heads fame for the younger set) put out an album called "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts". I'll come back to that in a moment.

Anyway, recently David Byrne + Brian Eno generated another project called "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today". I downloaded the free song "Strange Overtones" from their website. Liking what I'd heard, I bought the entire album from iTunes. I love it. Interesting, creative, and better than anything else I've heard since Radiohead's "In Rainbows" recently (or in quite a while for that matter).

There's a circuity of music here. U2 brought me to Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. I always loved Talking Heads and Radiohead. All of them introduced me to other great music. I was on a huge Daniel Lanois kick for at least the last year or more. Recently I've found that I need the more abstract stuff to interest me (Eno's stuff, Radiohead's crazier stuff, etc.) Also, "Passengers" is just about the only U2 that I've been playing lately (and I'm hoping U2's new album delivers on some of the suggestions I've heard about it lately.) I bought "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" and knew that I had to get "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today".

This thread is already too long. Suffice it to say that Brian Eno is very high on my list of creative artists right now. I loved his special commentary in Daniel Lanois' recent film "Here is What is". Hearing the song "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today" actually added something worthwhile to my thoughts. It was another and better way of reminding us that you are living your life right now, and that don't expect your real life to start in the future. Your life is happening every day. Today. Or, as John Lennon put it, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." Putting that aside, the music is outstanding.

If you are still awake and reading this, take my advice and add this album to your daily playlist. Sincerely...

Yes - it was billed as "The Songs of David Byrne & Brian Eno" so he pulled out the hits in addition to the new stuff. He looks so happy. And his girlfriend Cindy Sherman was sitting in front of me and down a couple of seats. She is gorgeous. They are now my favorite power couple.

And he sounds MUCH better live than on Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.
