This turned out way better than I expected, and I've got to say as someone who typically forms an attachment with bands only though the combination of resonate lyrics and musicality, I've always only enjoyed the Shins for the music/melody, but 'The High Road' has got to be Mercer's most impressive lyric for me, it's got an widely-applicable message and its approachable without being bash-you-over-the-head obvious. And its the song that best juxtaposes his vocal delivery with the new musical territory.
