This turned out way better than I expected, and I've got to say as someone who typically forms an attachment with bands only though the combination of resonate lyrics and musicality, I've always only enjoyed the Shins for the music/melody, but 'The High Road' has got to be Mercer's most impressive lyric for me, it's got an widely-applicable message and its approachable without being bash-you-over-the-head obvious. And its the song that best juxtaposes his vocal delivery with the new musical territory.

Oddly enough, The High Road is on my DI list since I really like Mercer's part on it. But the album as a whole? Didn't feel it.

Did you at least like Ghost Inside and Mall & Misery? I really like those two.

Even though I didn't wind up loving the album by any means, I'm tempted to buy the new EP that came out today (Meyrin Fields). I remember really liking the title track when they played it at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas.

Has anyone else heard it yet? If so, what say you?
