We're nearly half way through the year, what are your favorite releases of the year so far? Share yo lists. I wonder if The National will be mentioned!!!!!!

It's mine!!!!!!

Of course, I haven't listened to the new Ducky Boys yet. Who am I kidding, they haven't put out an album worthy of a best of list since 2004. I'm sure it's good, but i doubt it's as amazing as 3 chords was.

I like Kurt Vile, too. And ive listened to Delta Machine quite a few times. It disappoints me greatly I'm not the lone champion of the bad religion and dropkick murphys albums on the year. That used to be my job. While the BR album was decent and I listened to it a whole bunch when I got it, I haven't gone back to it since. And I've made my opinion on the current state of dkm well-known by now.

My ten favorites so far:

Nick Cave: Push the Sky Away
The National: Trouble Will Find Me
James Blake: Overgrown
My Bloody Valentine: mbv
The Knife: Shaking the Habitual
The Flaming Lips: The Terror
Dirty Beaches: Drifters / Love Is the Devil
Rhye: Woman
Savages: Silence Yourself
Deerhunter: Monomania

Not much of a shortlist, but here are my favorites.

James Blake - Overgrown
Autre Ne Veut - Anxiety
Eleanor Friedberger - Personal Record
The National - Trouble Will Find Me
Rhye - Woman
Atoms for Peace - Amok
Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience
Phosphorescent - Muchacho
Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City
Yo La Tengo - Fade
Kurt Vile - Walkin' on a Pretty Daze
Sigur Rós - Kveikur

Still need to listen to Nick Cave, MBV and Deerhunter, though.

Shit, cats. Here are 15 in no order:

Kanye West - Yeezus
Kurt Vile - Wakin on a Pretty Daze
A$AP Rocky - Long.Live.A$AP
James Blake - Overgrown
Savages - Silence Yourself
The National - Trouble Will Find Me
Hookworms - Pearl Mystic
Daughter - If You Leave
Autre Ne Veut - Anxiety
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Sigur Ros - Kveikur
Blue Hawaii - Untogether
Grouper - The Man Who Died in His Boat
Rhye - Woman
After Dark 2

Feel like I'm forgetting a lot. mbv/Lips/Disclosure. Probably a lot more. It's been a great six months.

Edit: SHIT. J TIMBY.

Still haven't heard After Dark 2, waiting for the physical release (sounds gross every time I write that). I also really like Deafheaven, but still waiting for my copy to arrive. Wish more people would listen to the DJ Koze album.

Paramore is my #1. It's the album I've enjoyed the most this year, and it's been spinning in my car CD player more than anything else in 2013.

Then we got:

The National - Trouble Will Find Me
The Strokes - Comedown Machine
Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob
Kanye West - Yeezus
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mosquito
Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires...
Atoms for Peace - AMOK
The Replacements - Songs for Slim EP
Joy Formidable - Wolf's Law
Foxygen - ...21st Century Ambassadors
Justin Timberlake - 20/20 Experience
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Specter at the Feast
Jim James - Region of Light and Sound of God

Song of the year is Vampire Weekend's "Step".

The song of the summer is Miley's "We Can't Stop".

The older, non-2013 album that I've listened to the most this year is Belle & Sebastian's If You're Feeling Sinister.

And I can't fucking wait to hear the new Arctic Monkeys, Jay-Z, Okkervil River, Arcade Fire, U2, Janelle Monae.

And hopefully Gaga can get her shit together and finally release ARTPOP.

The older, non-2013 album that I've listened to the most this year is Belle & Sebastians If You're Feeling Sinister.

Man, I have also listened to this album a whole bunch this year. Maybe not my most listened older album, but definitely close.

Kind of in order of how much I love them:

Sigur Ros - Kveikur
The National - Trouble Will Find Me
The Neighbourhood - I Love You.
Jimmy Eat World - Damage
My Chemical Romance - Conventional Weapons
Atoms for Peace - AMOK
30 Seconds to Mars - Love Lust Faith + Dreams
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Sin Fang - Flowers
Nick Cave - Push the Sky Away

I don't have a ranking yet but some of my top albums this year have been:

The National - Trouble Will Find Me
David Bowie - The Next Day
Queens of the Stone Age - Like Clockwork
The Joy Formidable - Wolf's Law
Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing
Foals - Holy Fire
YYYs - Mosquito
Atoms for Peace - AMOK

Best concert by far as of now has been The National at Barclays Center.

Your lists overlap everything I'd type here, now that Foals has been mentioned.

Trouble Will Find Me is my clear favorite, MBV running second and then a few more.

In no particular order.

The National - Trouble Will Find Me
Local Natives - Hummingbird
Autre Ne Veut - Anxiety
Sigur Ros - Kveikur
Kanye West - Yeezus
Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
Savages - Silence Yourself
The Strokes - Comedown Machine
Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience
The Flaming Lips - The Terror

Lots of good albums this year so far.

Odd that only one person has listed the David Bowie, especially considering the response it got here.

Honestly there's nothing I've heard this year that tops my favs from last year (Cat Power, Fiona, Passion Pit) and I thought 2012 was a little weak.

I guess it would be JT at this point, then Nick Cave.

The single best piece of new music I've heard this year was the as-yet unreleased song that Spiritualized opened with when I saw them, tentatively titled "The Road (Let's Go)".

In a year Phoenix and YYYs released albums, it's sad to not see them on any lists. Not surprising since both albums were disappointments, but yeah.

No, just a Cobblerstanding.

I'm pretty disappointed by the Phoenix as well. The YYYs will never top It's Blitz anyway so I wasn't expecting much there.
