ASAP Rocky, New York rapper, is about to release his debut album Long.Live.ASAP, on Jan 15, but it's leaked.

PMW (All I Really Need) (ft. ScHoolboy Q)
LVL
Hell (ft. Santigold)
Pain (ft. OverDoz)
Fuckin' Problems (ft. Drake, 2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar)
Wild for the Night
1 Train (ft. Kendrick Lamar, Joey Badass, YelaWolf, Danny Brown, Action Bronson & Big K.R.I.T.)
Fashion Killa

Suddenly

Production from the in-form Hit-Boy (no surprise he's on the best two tracks here), Danger Mouse, Clams Casino, T-Minus. Also Skrillex on Wild for the Night, which is by far the worst track.

I have to admit I've been pretty ignorant of this latest round of young rappers. If 1Bl0oD were here she could tell us more, but this bloke has been getting a hell of a lot of hype in the past few years, and while he's not the greatest rapper this is a pretty impressive debut that won me over very quickly. If you're looking for a comparison it sounds like the spaced-out moments of Tyler's Goblin in parts, and has that same deep affected voice all over it, but ASAP is far less obnoxious as a rapper and seems to be less of a misogynist. It's no good kid, m.A.A.d city, but it is the best hip-hop record of 2013 so far.

Goldie has been out for ages and it is dope as fuck, 1 Train is absolutely mental, a modern-day classic.

1 Train (ft. Kendrick Lamar, A$AP, Joey Bada$$, Yelawolf, - YouTube

There's even a reference to Nelly's Flap Your Wings on one of the tracks.

Anytime I see something written about this guy, I see the dollar sign and think it's laz's way of saying this guy sold out. And I cease to care. But now I actually know what it is, I care even less.

The Skrillex track has early dibs on shittiest song of 2013.

Really not a bad album though, the Clams tracks are great like always.

It is truly awful. Pitchfork, of course, liked it.

IWB I had the two confused for longer than I care to admit.

I refuse to put $ symbols in any of these people's names. It annoys the shit out of me.

I know it's an easy target for mockery when I've said I've watched seasons 1-3 of glee, but one of the funnier things in that show was the completely out of touch principal calling Kesha "ke dollar sign ha". Rappers/pop stars using non-letters is incredibly lame. It's up there with parents putting random punctuation in their kids' names in stupidity a far as I'm concerned.

I'm at work, and when I went to write up a report for this woman who defied at least two laws of physics in the way she crashed her car, I noticed that the last report I wrote on this computer was for a kid named Da'von. I remember that kid, I remember wanting to punch his mother when she spelled his name. Oh, and they were white.

I read this thread title and thought that Rocky had died. Then I thought hang on, Rocky Balboa is a fictional character from a bunch of movies.

Danny goes absolutely bananas on "1 Train." Dude never does a weak verse.

Really lookin' forward to this album, you guys.

The only one as far as I'm concerned. Never even listened to The Hybrid.

I dig 1 Train, the Clams songs, Goldie and Fuckin' Problems. The album's biggest issue is the collectively shit lyrics. A$AP just isn't a great writer. But he is pretty good at assembling talent and that makes this album worthwhile, though nothing that I'll likely return to outside of the tracks I already mentioned.

Yeah, LVL is pretty sweet. I should check out their shit.

He's not really an engaging rapper either. Not bad at all, just nothing special, and as you say, not saying anything revelatory. Not sure why the fork latched on to him as its next poster boy.

I tell you what though, that Hit-Boy is in a fucking purple patch. Clique, Mercy, Backseat Freestyle, Goldie, 1 Train...

That is not what I was expecting, that's much closer to like Aphex Twin etc than instrumental hip-hop.

Like Yelawolf's closing line in 1 Train - "Ain't never been no rapper this cold since 2Pac was froze / and thawed out for spa date at a Coachella show"

Big K.R.I.T.'s verse is sick too, I was pretty bummed I didn't enjoy his album at all.

^What'd you think?

Preeetty much hated it...there are moments where the album shines, especially with the beats, opening track and "Fashion Killa", but ultimately there is nothing special here, just the same shit about hip hop I have always disliked. Lots of bitches and pussys for everyone!

I mean...I would need some sort of lobotomy first, or an complete personality change, but it could happen.

Okay this thing has some clunkers (like the vast majority of hip hop albums), but I'll be damned if the highs aren't high as a muddafugga. I shouldn't even be allowed to listen to "1 Train" in public.

That looks awesome man. You must have a pretty fine looking collection these days.

I hate to say it, but I think Drake's verse on Fuckin' Problems might be my favourite on the song... even more than Kendrick's.
