A great throwback group, combining a twee pop vibe with Dunedin jangle pop touches (think The Chills and, in Oz, The Go-Betweens). Their new album Europe has an 89 on metacritic, which is damn fine for an album of this kind. It's definitely among the best records of the year so far.

Surprisingly, the lyrics are superb too. They are what really won me over; this little bit from Tallulah especially:

It's been a long time
Since I've seen all my old friends
But I really love my new friends
I feel I've known them a long while
I'm wondering if I've already heard
All the songs that'll mean something
And I'm wondering if I've already met
All the people that'll mean something

They have an acclaimed debut I haven't gotten around to yet, but I won't delay on that. I love this band already.

Does the guy sing less on the new album? It was partly his singing that causes me to not rate the debut tremendously highly.

Oh good. Because the chick's got such a nice voice, but on the debut, the guy comes in at a couple of points like her creepy old uncle and just ruins the nice jangly vibe.

Of course, the other major problem with the band - that awful name - remains unresolved.
