Albums: Year By Year

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I know music is subjective and all but I have never met anyone with good taste who does not like Pyramid Song. Top five Radiohead for me. And the video would be one of my favourites by any artist.

I really like Amnesiac front to end even with its little indulgences (and yea, they are many)... but not in a way that would involve putting it on an albums list. That whole period including the bsides, hell yeah... maybe we should take a listing of 'Kid A' to implicitly include all that other stuff.

Righto then.

I prefer Amnesiac to Kid A, so it's not a package deal for me. Even if everything is from the same sessions.

Yes. Unless you ask the person who started the thread.

I was actually surprised how many of my list were hip-hop albums. Really reminded me of how strongly the early-mid 90s were for hip-hop. A lot of good albums.

1996 had:
Palace Music – Arise, Therefore
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Now I Got Worry
Aphex Twin – Richard D. James Album
Lambchop – How I Quit Smoking
Underworld – Second Toughest in the Infants
Guided By Voices – Under the Bushes Under the Stars
DJ Shadow – Endtroducing
Belle & Sebastian – If You're Feeling Sinister

The first 4 are more than likely to show up in my top 25 albums ever list.
The others would be in the top 3 albums list of just about any other year.

Noir Désir - 666.667 Club is a great one from 1996. Just barely missed my list.

Second Toughest in the Infants is fucking great, but it had If You're Feeling Sinister and Odelay to contend with.

WOW.

You probably eat halal certified food, too.

I was into Isis before they went mainstream, man.

(I'm so pissed off that I can't wear my Isis shirt in public any more.)

Also Ax if you think 96 sucked I'd suggest DJ Shadow's Endtroducing. I actually think you'd quite like it.

I have meant to give that a go.

My high ratings for 1996 at present are a bunch of decent albums that don't quite cross over to greatness:

The Chills - Sunburnt
Incredible Expanding Mindfuck - Incredible Expanding Mindfuck
Jimmy Eat World - Static Prevails
Katatonia - Brave Murder Day
Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go
Opeth - Morningrise
Orphaned Land - El Norra Alila
Porcupine Tree - Signify (which perhaps should be my #1 for the year, because the great tracks on that album are really, really great even if the whole product is a bit patchy)
Sebadoh - Harmacy
Underworld - Second Toughest in the Infants

1969 and 1971 are better than any of the years Laz listed and he didn't even bother with them.

Kids these days.

lol......great years for music but I wouldn't say 1969 and 1971 were better than the years Laz listed.

1969 titles from my collection:

The Beatles - Abbey Road
Led Zeppelin- II
Led Zeppelin - I
The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
The Who - Tommy

The Kinks - Muswell Hillbillies

Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey

It baffles me how even the people who only have a cursory awareness of the music discussed in here still make that mistake. Unless you're totally doing crash car driver drive-by unrelated YouTube video posts, I would have thought it to be pretty obvious that with the exception of me (and I'll make exceptions to that for Saul Williams or Atmosphere) everyone here loves hip hop.

I second cobl04 here. DJ Shadow's Endtroducing....(1996) was a decent album. Even though it's almost entirely comprised of sampled music, he does do an adequate job piecing together various bits from his frequent record store jaunts. I saw DJ Shadow as the opener for The Chemical Brothers in 1999 and was impressed.

Quality list and I was surprised by your inclusion of Muse - Origin Of Symmetry. It really seems to be an underrated album that is only listened to by the Muse faithful. What do you think of the new Noel Gallagher - Chasing Yesterday?

I like Chasing Yesterday, but the debut is better.

Listened to Amnesiac. Enjoyed it, but it kinda peaked, for me, at the first track. It's pleasant straight through, but nothing jumped out as of yet. I liked it more on first listen than I did Kid A, though.

The only conversation in B&C that happens more frequently than the merits of Amnesiac is Laz and LM talking about how much they love Steely Dan.

It's very good, arguably more consistent than Gaucho. And it has two legit classics in I.G.Y. and New Frontier, maybe a third. But I think I prefer Kamakiriad, which may be partially due to it having an actual Becker/Fagen song which means it's the only Steely Dan track of the 90s.

Mezzanine is a hell of an album from 98 as well. I could have gone with that one as my choice from that year.
