Managed to talk a friend into going with me and got 2 tickets in the pre-sale just now. The most amazing part is that there were no exorbitant fees--just a $0.30 processing fee. Wow.

Daily schedule for Riot Fest came out today and now I'm super anxious, cause AFI are listed 3rd on Sunday. Last year, all bands that were listed 3rd headlined this one side stage that conflicts with all main-stage acts

Article/Interview with Davey about the new album, Burials

A snippet:

Quote:
"It is certainly – embarrassingly so – a very dark album, especially in its candidness, which is something, to be honest, that's disappointing to me," he says. "It's something I just keep coming back to – I can't escape it. It's always a joy to me to reach away from that. But the themes and sentiments on this record are within that darker realm and that darker tone because I've always been honest in everything that I write. It's beyond me. I'm crippled. There's nothing I can do but be genuine in my writing, and that's what came out this time – without any sort of pointed effort."

"I really feel [the title] speaks of the overall sentiment of the record," he continues. "The album really speaks of a burial of a silence and the burials that result from those silences of panic and anxiety and betrayal and cruelty – and a loss of self, a loss of stability."

Not so sure about I Hope You Suffer. It's ok, I guess.

In other news I'm finally getting around to hearing decemberunderground. Yeah, other than hearing miss murder on the radio and watching the video when it came out, I don't think I ever did hear this.

Listening to Decemberunderground right now. Two of my favorites--Kiss and Control and 37mm--are just...so fucking good.

Summer Shudder is probably the song that's lasted the longest with me from that album.

For whatever reason, I was unaware of it until a year a two after the album released, but I also really like the cover they did of Morrissey's Jack the Ripper as a b-side / bonus track during the Decemberunderground era. I actually think UiU was the person who told me about it.

I think I remember that. I didn't actually get into AFI until Decemberunderground came out. I then went back and found out how awesome Black Sails In The Sunset and The Art of Drowning were.

I actually liked Crash Love quite a bit. I listened to it a lot in 2009. The 'poppiness' of the album didn't bother me (maybe because I wasn't into them in the earlier years).

I'm looking forward to the new one.
