Nobody cares.

I mention Radiohead and Pop, and people get panties in mighty bunches.

It's a U2 fan forum, after all......the Radiohead obsession, on the other hand, I agree with you that it's odd. I don't really understand why Radiohead are put on a pedestal here.

OK Computer and The Bends are decent albums that will be remembered. The rest, I'm not so sure about. It's too early to say whether any of their post OK Comp. will be remembered as anything more than a footnote. Myself, I suspect that it will only be remembered along the lines of 'After recording two of the finest albums of the 1990's, the band Radiohead messed around with a lot of experimental prog shit.'

He doesn't really look particularly old for 51, do you genuinely think he's an alco?

Still, it's handy being friends with Bono when your excessive drinking causes problems.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Buck

"At the ensuing trial in London, Buck's defense claimed that the small amount of wine he had drunk had reacted adversely with the brand of sleeping pill he was taking and rendered him unable to control his actions. The prosecution, on the other hand, argued that he was simply intoxicated from supposedly consuming fifteen refills of wine."

I'm pretty sure Buck is notorious for this.

And as for Radiohead, I think the critical establishment has already passed the verdict on Kid A. It's very highly regarded, and don't be surprised when it appears near the top of Best of the 00's lists at the end of the decade.

It was also a #1 album, Radiohead's first in the U.S.

And looked at as innovative...when it wasn't. I love The Bends and OK Computer, they showed strong influences at the time but really had their own sound and Yorke actually sung, their songs were mostly about real things. I still enjoy what they've put out since on a listening level, but they are not the most brilliant artists working today and their output since then is just not as good, not because the sound is different but because it became about being esoteric and strange and less about creating brilliant music.

And now I'm going to be murdered for betraying the almighty Radiohead.

Is this question because I said I like The Bends and OK Computer the most, or because I still listen to U2's output and don't hate it and so I'm apparently being hypocritical?

Contrary to Interference's code of ethics, it is possible to not worship Radiohead and not be stark raving mad.

I don't know about you my friends, but I strongly believe that a 34 minutes-"long" CD is an insult to the fans.

In the LP days it was ok ... but now?.

I know, I know. I'm waiting for the (ab)used replies like "I prefer 34 minutes of great music instead an hour of crap" and the likes.

As far I know, only half of the album is worth. So we have 17 minutes of good music?

For worse, the sound couldn't have been worse. Compressed to hell, LOUD (*cough* HTDAAB) with no spaces in the music.

What the hell have the "producers" and "engineers" nowadays?. Have they ever listened to Dark Side Of The Moon?

REM's swan song was New Adventures In Hi Fi. Ever since ...

Listening to the Dublin bootlegs I really like Living Well is the Best Revenge and Houston. This record will probably be better than the last two, not that that is some accomplishment. Still, why is the atrocious I'm Gonna DJ on it? As a closer???

I really thought Until the day is Done would have been the closer.

The thing about the length is, its not like they have few songs to justify calling it an album instead of an EP, they're just much shorter songs for the most part.

R.E.M. TO HEADLINE SASQUATCH! FESTIVAL

R.E.M. will be one of the headliners at this year's Sasquatch! Music Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre in central Washington state. The festival takes place over Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26. Tickets go on sale March 8.

Stay tuned to remhq.com for the specific night the band will be playing and visit Sasquatchfestival.com for more information.

Now if they would just announce on-sale dates for the North American tour...

Oh dear ... is this going to be what finally makes me go to The Gorge for a concert?

I'll have to look back to see if there was a Portland or Vancouver show - I'd prefer to go to one of those. I don't care for festivals.

Oh good, they're playing in Vancouver. And it's a Friday night! That makes it easier.

I like convenience in my old age.
