If you ask me Muse's last good album was Absolution. They were on fire for Origin of Symmetry, Absolution, and a whole bunch of non-album material from that period (the Dead Star/In Your World single having my two favourite Muse songs). Then they fell in a hole and will probably never dig themselves out.

As exciting and fresh as Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia were at the time (and they're still fun to me), they certainly signalled the start of Muse's tongue in cheek phase. Before they came across as completely sincere behind the larger than life sounds they conjured up, now it feels like they're spoofing themselves and skidded right into camp. At least Black Holes and Revelations had some good tunes at the same time.

They'll never come close to Origin of Symmetry again.
