This time period gave us many wonderful things including:

Best of Prog and Art Rock
Best of New Wave
Early days of Electronic music.
Best of Bowie
Best of Pink Floyd
Pinnacle Jazz Fusion Record and one of the best jazz albums (Romantic Warrior)
Had as many if not more insanely good songs than the late sixties through early 70’s.
Merging world music with Western music.

Wow, a Sting mention that's not an insult! Nice to see I'm not the only person around here who will own up to liking Sting.

;)

Holy shit, Screwtape, that's a hell of post.

But one of the things I think of in terms of music when it comes to that time period was the birth of punk. There doesn't seem to be any of the 70's pioneers of punk on your list. It was such an influential (for lack of better words) genre of music that exploded on our culture...the repercussions of it still felt today and will be felt forever.

Anyway, good work.

No, but nice try.

Glad to see the mentions of early rap/hip-hop spliced in here, too.

Best of Prog and Art Rock

I disagree with that. Yes and Genesis were past their peak, and the majority of albums that prog-haters mock are from the period you named.

Best of Bowie

I love Low, and especially Station To Station, but you can't just ignore Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs, and fucking Ziggy Stardust. Plus, Bowie reached his lowest point artistically in the mid-80's.

Best of Pink Floyd

Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, Dark Side Of The Moon, and Meddle are all generally recognized as Floyd classics, but I can sort of see your point.

Had as many if not more insanely good songs than the late sixties through early 70’s.

No way.

Good effort though; I liked quite a few of your choices.

Great selection you've got there. It's certainly one of my favorite periods too.

Sting was amazing until sometime in the early '90s. It was all downhill after that.

Sacred Love was great but for the most part I agree that after The Soul Cages in 1991 his career went downhill. Considering the great albums he mainly wrote from 1979-1991, it isn't a surprise he got burnt out. I think the same thing happened with Peter Gabriel.
