Yahweh Inspiration ??

I have had HTDAAB playing the background for the last couple of days. When I hear the song Yahweh, it reminds me of this hymn:

Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be
Swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing,
Always, only, for my King.
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from thee.

Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold
Take my intellect, and use
Ev'ry pow'r as thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is thine own;
It shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for thee.

I haven't had the opportunity to hear the album (and probably won't for some time as it will not be released here). Could you post the lyrics to "Yahweh" so I could compare?

Here is a transcription of the lyrics I found on the net:

Take these shoes
Click clacking down some dead end street
Take these shoes
And make them fit
Take this shirt
Polyester white trash made in nowhere
Take this shirt
And make it clean, clean
Take this soul
Stranded in some skin and bones
Take this soul
And make it sing

Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I’m waiting for the dawn

Take these hands
Teach them what to carry
Take these hands
Don’t make a fist
Take this mouth
So quick to criticise
Take this mouth
Give it a kiss

Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I’m waiting for the dawn

Still waiting for the dawn, the sun is coming up
The sun is coming up on the ocean
This love is like a drop in the ocean
This love is like a drop in the ocean

Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
Yahweh, tell me now
Why the dark before the dawn?

Take this city
A city should be shining on a hill
Take this city
If it be your will
What no man can own, no man can take
Take this heart
Take this heart
Take this heart
And make it break

I see Bono's vision of heaven in the lyrics again

Take this city
A city should be shining on a hill
Take this city
If it be your will
What no man can own, no man can take
Take this heart
Take this heart
Take this heart
And make it break

His desire to please God also seems evident through out!

Interesting.

I definitely think there are some major similarities to the hymn. Then again, the first thing it reminded me of was some lyrics in DYFL..."take these hands, they're good for nothing, you know these hands never worked a day. take these boots, they're going nowhere, you know these boots don't want to stray."

Overall, I find it an uplifting example of Bono's committment to be re-created in the image of Christ. A good example for all of us.

It's got Winthrops sermon written all over it. Perhaps why Edge mentinoed Winthrop in one of his postcards in Q magazine.

nbcrusader,

"Take my Life and Let it Be" was the FIRST thing I thought about when I heard Yahweh. That's why I said in another post that Yahweh could make it into a hymnal.

That's really interesting, thanks for posting your observation. I wouldn't doubt at all if Bono drew inspiration from that hymn

The hymn was written by an Englishwoman named Frances Ridley Havergal (1836-1879). The tune it is traditionally sung to, Patmos, was written by her father. She began writing hymns at age 7.

I'd like to think she and Bono would have had a lot in common.

Shaizari -

I have always thought that Bono's songs and King David's psalms were very similar in their search for meaning and truth in this life and their very complicated yet very loving relationship with God.

It's good to find someone else with similar thoughts about this relationship between Bono and King David.

YOUR LOVE IS TEACHING ME HOW TO KNEEL....

Since I read this thread I am starting to like Yahweh a lot more. I also think of "do you feel loved?" though...but it sure does sound a lot like that hymn

I am of Jewish blood and when I was younger I went to Temple on sunday mornings. It was a long while till I went back. I have never had a Bat Mitzvah. I started to go back to Shabbat services last year. It has been awhile since I have gone but it is really interesting, Yahweh means God in Hebrew. All my life I have never known that. To me God in Hebrew is Adonai. I guess you learn something new everyday. I feel Bono is more Jewish than I. LOL
