Those are both types of flowers, but they also are expressions. A bleeding heart is someone "perceived as excessively compassionate but naïve" (Wikipedia). Some people accused Bono of being like this when he first started doing Africa stuff. I'm not sure what a "painted rose" is, but I've always thought that it means something is phony.
