Yo soy over and done with speaking Spanish! English is much easier and it gives me headaches to think so long about words in Spanish.....

But I can say a swear word in Spanish cojones :laugh: I can't speak Spanish, but insults always are the easiest things to learn!

Hola Bono-Vox, yo soy de el pais de donde esta basada la cancion Bullet the Blue Sky, El Salvador! Pero vivo en Canada desde hace 20 anos. Vivo En Montreal. La ciudad mas Multi-Ethnica de todo el Mundo. At least it seems that way.

no sab?a que hubiese tanta gente que hablara espa?ol por el interference, lo cual es una grata y agradable sorpresa.

That was the way I read the band name 'u2' for the first time consciously when I was doing Spanish homework. :huh: Scary.......

Bienvenido, udos. :wave: (actually I'm not sure at all if 'bienvenidos' is the right word for 'welcome' but I think it is. :yes: )

You were right, here we don't say 'You Two', we say U Dos, and let me say it sounds better ;)

I think (no offence now :lol: ) that it sucks to change the name of a band in different countries. It is the name every band took and then there are people who simply turn the name into something different......my Spanish teacher insists that I say 'u dos' when I speak about U2 in Spanish class, but I don't. :grumpy:

en realidad lo que pasa es q en espa?ol 'you two' suena muy feo para alguien que no sepa hablar en ingl?s. es como new york, aqu? en espa?a nadie lo dice a lo ingl?s, todos lo decimos con su equivalente espa?ol, es decir 'nueva york'.

adem?s cuando empezaron a llegar noticias de u2 a espa?a a principios de los a?os 80 no eran muchos los que en espa?a sab?an algo de ingles. por lo tanto acabaron pronunciando lo que ven?a en los discos, 'u2', es decir 'udos' en espa?ol, cuando poco a poco a la gente se le dijo que esa no era la pronunciaci?n correcta, ya era demasiado tarde, porque nos hab?amos acostumbrado a pronunciarlo 'udos' y ?as? seguimos haci?ndolo!

?supongo que a bono y compa??a no les importar? mucho esta confianza!

no es una falta de respeto, es simplemente una (extra?a) manera de reinvidicar nuestra propia identidad cultura.

Probably they don't. Cos it wouldn't change anything anyway besides maybe losing some Spanish U2 fans who call them udos. In Germany nobody calls U2 UZwei cos it is simple fricking idiotic to change something that is known for a long time. Like with 'New York'. I understand that when continents/something-alike are named different cos that's a name that developed over dozens of years. But turning the USA into EEUU is something equal inacceptable for me. I say EEUU in class, but I'm not content with it. Also other languages say these three short letters 'USA' - Germans could also call the USA 'VSA' , but they don't cos it is a constant name.

It doesn't matter anyway. But I definitely won't say UDos in my life.

Agree with you on this, the truth is I've always thought the same, but when people don't speak English is difficult for them, I mean, most of the names you read them, before listem to them! :yes:

I see, but most names aren't that ambigous like a band name with a letter and a numeral in it. Most bands/places/states just have a simple way of writing, thus also speaking. You don't call Radiohead 'radio-he-ad' for example I suppose. And if you do it, it is not such a big change of the name like turning YouToo into UDos.

Small changes, like different pronounciations = okay
Big changes like saying names c.o.m.p.l.e.t.l.y different = :down:

I have problems with watching videos on my computer right now, but when U2 were in Germany 1983, Bono said:

Dies ist ein Lied ?ber Gewalt in Irland. Und es hei?t......Sonntag.......Sunday Bloody Sunday.

They also changed their song titles into the mother language of the country they were performing in. :| I don't see this is real arguement. :| :shrug:

It is. :) If I hadn't learnt German from my earliest days on I don't think I could speak it at all today. It is about as hard as Spanish. :D

I have a special of U2 from VIVA channel. Well, Bono and Larry are interviewed (I'm talking about POP era) but there's someone talking over Bono, translating what he says to German and that really annoys me because I don't understand a single word they say! And all I understand is something like hiofoiewoiqerun camera man bono fjioiejrqoi popmart jqofjqqji pop fqqejrre qereeqcvcabb electronic :mad:
