France, precisely Dijon for mustard lovers
What if, and I don’t mean to be counterproductive,
I was to kiss you for the last time when I’m off to work,

What if, and I don’t want you to think that I’m a jerk,
I was to hug you for the last time, call me sensitive,

Would something be different in my way?
Would I just look at you and walk away?
Or would I know from the bottom of my heart
That this is the last time we part?

How do you know if you’re going to make it through it all
When your back’s against the wall?
How do you learn from the mistakes of your past
When you know that next is last?

What if, and I don’t want to sound too provocative,
I was to wave at you for the last time from my car,

What if the tires were to skid on the slippery tar
In these bends that particularly deceive,

Would I look intently for a hint?
The way the sky has changed its tint?
Would I see the detail that gives away
That this is in fact the last day?

Would you get a chance to finally take my call
With no idea what happened at all?
And time flies and time steals memories so fast,
If only I’d known that next was last.
