think of all the games of peek-a-boo
all the piggy-back rides I never got
I didn't notice then, now it hurts a lot

think of all the sunny days
the hot concrete, the hoops not shot
just one game of horse is all I want

think of all the weekend nights
and all the ballgames never watched
it's the other sons' fathers I watch

think of all the birthdays passed
mother baked all those cakes alone
the only parent that I've ever known

think of that graduation night
with cap and gown, I recieve my degree
guess who isn't there to see me do it

tell me Mr. President

tell me what you're gonna say to me
to justify, when I'm eighteen
and I can't remember my own dad

can't remember his smile
can't remember his voice
can't remember the day when
the picture I'm looking at was taken

I'm two years old
sitting on his lap
we're both smiling
I can't remember why
It doesn't really matter
