some of the stuff in this forum is of truly amazing quality so I thought somebody might be interested in this: www.poetry.com www.sparknotes.com
apparently they're holding a competition with money prizes for budding poets
BTW, I found sparknotes quite excellent I used them to save money on both notes and the original books for my BA English credits Muhhaahha (evil laugh at expense of those who actually bother reading...)

while I'm here I might as well post something though I kinda suck

and we?re looking around hiding away
and as time goes by
and the leaves turn brown
when snow?ll fall to the ground
and we fade to grey
as we lose our minds
only time will tell
whether we passed the test
when we?re layed to rest

and we?re lapping it up, selling our souls
as we all fall foul
to our dreams and doubts
as for blood to the pound
so no more they?ll mind
as we lose our friends
only time will tell
whether we passed the test
when we?re layed to rest

and we?re telling our lore fightin a war
and not knowing how
or the reason for
as we maim and mangle
those who come between
ourselves and our thorns
only time will tell
whether we passed the test
when we?re layed to rest

you know that they are lying
when they say that the life we are living
has some purpose
has some meaning
cos you know i don?t really see it when
I keep playing it over and over
just like a scared child?s nightmare
in my head all day and night
in the light and in the dark

and they say that time is the greatest healer
but I can?t bring my self to believe it when
I?m standing in the city on the edge of forever
even if so, nothing but time can be truer
and it will be the judge of whether
we gave a purpose and a meaning
to the hand that we were dealt
so when we reach our end
only time will tell
whether we passed the test
when we?re layed to rest

woa didn't realise it was this long
(posted in sheer embarassment)

you are a true poet, and even more so because you think you suck

Which you do not, that was a very truthful piece, and Im so glad we've got another poet over here in the corner!!

Welcome frogbat...

p.s. ANyone remember a poem I wrote here called slowly silently weeping? well funnily enough that poem is on the poetry.com site as I entered it into a comp of theirs ages ago. Its now going to be in an anthology of theirs.
It was the most bizarre thing, I stumbled across the site one day and knew it was the same people who were publishing my poem, so I thought Id enter my name..just for fun, and it turned up!! It was a surreal moment.

thanks for your kind words and I think it's really great you got your work published

it's odd though, I always believed that poetry and literature are dead mediums for expressing oneself. I always believed that if the Bard were living today he'd be writing pop songs rather than sonnets and screenplays rather than plays. He'd might also go about calling himself Bill Shaks riding out o'er them (Beverley) hills in a bentley.
Anyway, thanks again - especially for proving me wrong about my previous convictions!
