I'm leaving for to’ get my money back ,
A guaranteed result,
Tearing pages from the book,
As I sow the field with salt,
Nuthin’ shall ever grow again,
Until you tow the plough,
And you’re always telling me to be proud…………………

Well, I believe that the common man,
Still has power over his soul,
Even though they sell us dreams on television shows,
We’re consuming this and consuming that,
But I’m sure you were never told,
That Jesus was a socialist,
You know he didn’t care for gold,
And you’re always telling me to be proud…………………

Well I saw the reverend John a’ herding up his flock,
Chasing down those wayward sheep,
He’s to keep em’ under lock,
For we know if they’d think for themselves,
They’d all run away,
Taking the night with them,
Leaving us with the day,
And you were always telling me to be proud,

Well, pride is a deadly sin,
I read it in a book,
And I know the world would be aggrieved,
Seeing as I took,
I took the book and with it, rolled myself a cigarette,
Just skip the lesson yet heed the past least we not forget,
You were always telling me to be proud!!!!!!!!

That was damned good, ZD. Did you know there's also a David Bowie song called Song For Bob Dylan ? The song is on his Hunky Dory album. It's interesting how you have a completely different take. It's not one of Bowie's greatest lyrics, and dare I say you may have trumped him here.

Thanks Redkat.

And to Laz,

Yes I have listened to the Bowie song quite a few times and I have to say it's more than a compliment that you might actually consider this greater than that song, I mean I can't explain how much of a compliment that is, thank you so much.

The idea of writing a song for Mr. Dylan came to me last night, I guess I tried to tap into Dylan's persona and lyrical sensibilities but still manage to covey the piece as purely my own with deeper lyrical meaning rather than this just being me, trying to ape one of influences, I'm not sure if I suceeded though, but your comments mean alot to me. seeing as imo your a great writer yourself.

Zero Dude, great writing.

Proud......what exactly is Mankind proud of.......I have not seen anything of any worth yet.....in fact there is more hardship in this World than there is happiness. Commodites.........materialistic masses which eventually turn to waste.

Oh there are still knights in the World......where valor and honor and integrity make life somewhat worthwhile as the mind-controlled sheep are herded to slaughter.

The World, itself...well it is doomed.......the prophets doeth foresee. The FEAR of the matter is Mankind does not know where and when it will end.

I suppose I don't get the full effect, because I don't know a whole lot about Mr Dylan. Still, it is a set of lyrics that I can respect. It does remind me of him, of some words he's sang....

well done
