(this poem is dedicated to Lt. General Romeo Dallaire , the UN force commander in Rwanda during the Genocide , when asked how he could still believe in God after all he had witnessed in Rwanda he answered ? Because I shook hands with the Devil?)

Shake Hands with the Devil

In the kindness of a stranger?s hand
I find no better day
Untie the strings that bind my heart
And lead my soul away
And what did come that night must tell
In dreams of unknown refuge
A liar?s truth, a muse whose hero fell
And how do I know that light break way
That better hearts can still prevail
It is of this when night led stray
That I stared into the darkest hollow
Tempest eyes and beggars plea
And my soul it did not follow

Katey- this is absolutely incredible! I see you are in Ontario as well, there is a Canadian literary magazine (tho their format is more akin to softcover book), very reputable, open to all genres, which I'm trying to get published in myself. At the risk of creating more competition for myself  , you really should submit this! Their website is www.descant.com I have a subscription with them and their publications are incredible and use poetry, short stories, essays and artwork. Submissions are open to non-Canadians as well for anyone else reading this.
