reflect-ion

in pieces of you
I see little reflections
of my own rebellion.

the mirror is cracked
it laughs at me
and scatters my image
further out of reach,
stretching every detail
into the form of my distaste;

to resist the magnetisation,
the fatal polar attraction
of the ion slicing through
transparencies of glass...

when will I learn
to turn my back
and let the glare
be absorbed into my
immovable spine?

for only then will I put
your mangled, distorted limbs
back together
and wipe the blood
of my vanity
from the vaguely stabbing shards.

Awesome poem, BG...hard to pick out a favorite part, but that is one of them.

I was curious about this passage, not sure what you meant by "immovable spine" in the context at least

ooh a darker one for you BG
I like it!

to resist the magnetisation,

of the ion slicing through
transparencies of glass...

I love that stanza

thanks guys

Wanderer, it's funny you should mention those two words since that was the line I was struggling with; it didnt sound right.

the poem is about tendencies to look for approval in other people (the mirror) and the overly-critical nature that results..
that stanza particularly was the narrator asking when they will learn to not base their own worth on other people's opinions; the immovable spine was supposed to show how these thought processes are kind of a natural part of human nature (the upper part of the spinal cord controls the more basic and primitive body functions--such as breathing) but the narrator is hoping that even thought they may not be able to change certain instincts, they could possibly learn to control and live with them, and maybe not be so critical of others..

uhh hope that made some sense
